If convicted on all counts she will face 30 years in prison (most likely federal) and $2MM in fines, plus barred for life from owning any other public company.

She will have to step down from the board of directors of NYSE too if she didn't already do that.

Later today she will face the judge here in Manhattan.

Tex
I think she's getting a bad rap.
Every big Wall St. hot shot has at one time or another done what Martha has.

She's made lots of enemies on her way to the top, they want to see her hung.

Personally I think Martha will get a big fine and a slap on the wrist.

If I had all that money, I'd runevil face

maul's woman
I think she will have to pay the $2Million in fines but I don't think she will do jail time. Her crime is not as big as Michael Millkin, the junk bond trader that put an entire company out of business and bilked millions out of investors. She only sold $45,000 worth of stock through insider trading and lied about it. That's what really got her... perjury.

She's burned BAD! She still has money but she stands to lose everything businesswise.

I agree. I think she has some very powerful secret enemies too.

Tex
Its a shame really.
She really is a genius when it comes to house and home.

Did you watch that NBC TV movie about her life?
It was pretty crappy, but she really worked her ass off!

Roger
Excuse me but what did Martha Stewart do that was so bad?

finti
tricked with the stocks

maul's woman
Guilty of selling her 4,000 ImClone stocks based on insider information which is against the law. She sold all her stocks a day before the feds released information stating that Erbitux was no good as a cancer medication treatment. She and her broker (Bacanovic) and her long time stock friend (Wakslat ) got indicted.

As of yesterday she quit as CEO and Chairwoman of her company. If she is convicted she faces 30 years in jail which I believe she won't get.

She's on the board of the New York Stock Exchange too. I think she already quit that position if they didn't throw her out. Oh boy! What a mess. She should have let the stocks fall. It would have only cost her $45,000. Not even a drop in the bucket for her. DAng.

I used to admire Martha, but not anymore. it appears she has chosen the same path that ENRON chose 2 years agon. And that is to cheat people outta their money.

JKozzy
Heh, sucks for her. The new fashion is stripes eek!....

SK88728
i heard this on a show, but i will repeat what he said, "I hope somebody tells Martha what a toss salad means, because where she is going it has nothing to do with lushes greens."

and i like martha, i dont still see what the big deal was.

julibug
It is a shame that they decided to make an example with her. Of course, it is also a shame that she did what she did. What I'm wondering is did they go after the person who provided the insider info? They should have stiffer punishment than she gets.

WaDe_N_sPaRrOw
good.. i hope she burns in jail....

Haha, everyone in my house is glad she got the boot. Finally, celebs can't do anything they want, or get special treatment. Hope they lock that foo up for a longo time big grin

Ushgarak
You know she has not actually been done for fraud, right? That whole 'victory for the little people' thing makes bugger all sense to me...

Dogbert
Who gives a f*ck about Martha Stewart? This will not affect me at all, whether she goes to jail or not. This may affect the people who shop at K-Mart though.

steely balls

I prefer Emeril to Martha Stewart. By far.

The One Part 2
She was never charged with insider trading. She wasn't even accused of insider trading. The only reason this thing even went to trial was that she rebuffed the Feds when they first asked her to come in for questioning. The Feds' whole case was based on insider trading, which they couldn't even prove. The jury was simply moronic in that the decision was made solely because she didn't testify.

I am not a fan of Martha Stewart in the least bit, but she was the target of a witchhunt. I only hope that she wins her appeal and countersues the government for the millions that she lost.
