Some years ago, I gave up drugs. Mainly coke and pot, I also gave up steroids use (mostly), and I am much more relaxed. None of them did me any good.

Do people think some people need to self-medicate to deal with personality disorders, or stress, etc.? Or is there never a valid reason?

Ian McShane is always a standout. See, you can be civil to people. What troll thread?

For sure, drug use can easily be a distraction. "Life is hard and I don't want to face reality" = hit the drugs, be they illegal, alcohol, abusing prescription drugs like painkillers etc.

I can't really relate though on a personal level, only drugs I've used was marijuana and that basically ended in my early 20's, it was also light use. I don't even drink alcohol anymore, that was also always very sporadic and very rarely to excess when I did.

I admit, I still use a few performance enhancers and I like a bottle of red sometimes with a meal. Hell, I'm old... Oldest guy in the gym. Haha. Oh and Cialis smile

I did the creatine thing decade+ ago and I tried the NOXplode-whatever (basically gave you a caffeine high) for a bit. Found that eating well is the best bodybuilding/fitness path to take.

Not the oldest guy in my gym, but I'm one of the fittest people in their 40's (43 here), even proud to say I'm in better shape muscle/leanness wise than many of the people in their 30's and even 20's. Consistency is key. There is one ex competitive bodybuilder that has to be in his early 50's now, dude is still jacked/ripped , though I've never aimed to be Schwarzenegger.

Do you think the steroid use had anything to do with your Cialis needs?

That's not what I meant at all, but that's okay.

I mean hey, if you truly were a cokehead and kicked it? Good for you, props.

Oh no, there are rational reasons for taking drugs. I'm very pro war on drugs, but there are a few I'd consider taking.

Aderall/ritalin: As a college student this would be my nuclear option if I find myself failing to meet expectations. Some questionable side and long-term effects must reserve it as a last-resort option.

Steroids (Testosterone, IGF1, Tren, pro-hormones) : As a body-builder, I pride myself on being natural, however after the age of 50 when my natural hormone levels drop I'd most likely compensate with steroids. Used responsibly they can be a viable option to keep yourself in good health.

Cocaine: Very unlikely I ever will due to its short-term "high" at the cost of serious long-term effects. If I needed to go a serious time without sleep maybe, but aderall might be better for all-nighters.

Mushrooms/LSD: There is no rationality behind these hallucinogenic drugs other than I'm curious for the experience.

Thanks for sharing OP, hopefully Surt will get inspired by this. sad

I used heavy at one point. Shrooms, lsd, meth. Shit wrecks your life. It took a toll. Once i kicked it though i was done. The hardest habit to quit was alcohol/cigars. I havent given up drinking but i do it sparingly now. Before i could down a few cases before passing out. Now my body physically shuts down at 3 cans. Even when i wanna binge (shitty day, argument with exes etc) i couldnt get past that 3rd bottle. And even with that tiny amount i was still hurting the whole next day. My body would seriously make me pay. Now i settle for a tall boy every now and again and thats it. It doesnt feel so much as ive kicked my habit but that my body wont allow it.

Props on your sobriety tho

No one needs to self medicate, its more a matter of how you perceive things and choose to live your life, and wether or not you can find the balance point that lets you imbibe/deal with whatever it is that necessitates the medicating, while not wrecking other aspects of your life.
Some ppl do quite well drinking and taking drugs, some dont.
