Can people start transitioning their race?

socool8520
Well race as I understand it is biological, so outside of changing your bone structure and pigmentation, no you can't transition race. Now ethnicity on the other hand, I think you could probably argue could be transitioned. It basically centers on social and cultural norms. It is highly likely that you could identify more with another race's general culture.

Sable
Isnt gender biological? Yea I supposed its gechincslly easier to change your ethnicity. But in reality, its no different, you just decide you want to ne a different race or ethnicity and you are right?

socool8520
No gender refers to the social and cultural norms of male/female which can be changed depending on what you identify with. Sex on the other hand, requires a lot of surgery

Sable
I mean sex, isnt sex biological? Even if you have surgery, you cant change your chromosomes.

socool8520
Right, I think you can change a lot, but I'm not sure if you could completely change sex or race

Sable
So know matter how one identifies, modifies, they can't change their chromosomes and DNA. But they can still qualify or be accepted as something they are not based on choice.

So the same thing could be accepted for ethnicity or race?

socool8520
technically yes. I don't fully understand why you would want to change sex or race, but I could see how you could identify with alternate gender norms or different ethnicities

Sable
I really feel bad for this women, she worked her whole life to advance African American causes, then was cast aside when it was found out she was trans racial.

She is wrong though. race is not a social construct. It is biological and she is probably Caucasian. She may identify ethnically with the African American Community. I can see where she does. It seems she had a strong drive to advance the African American community so her identifying with them ethnically makes sense. I don't know why she was dismissed though. you don't have to be African American to join from what I understand.

Emperordmb
And you don't have to be a female to be feminine or wear a dress. That's why the concept of gender identity seems dumb to me. Keep language and legal matters in respect to biological sex and allow people to dress act or get whatever surgery or hormones they want if they aren't hurting other people, that IMO would be the best societal approach to this shit.

socool8520
I do agree that it is archaic and needs to be removed.

What about people who are mixed, like half black and half white...but they only identify as one race? But they aren't strictly one race, so they are in fact ignoring part of themselves, ignoring reality and choosing to go with their feelings over facts, right?

Are you confusing ethnicity with race? Ethnicity can be based off how you feel. Racially speaking, they would be bi racial and probably share features of the races they are. Ethnically though, they could be more comfortable with the cultural and social norms of one of the other. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Surtur
You make a good point.

A entire tragic generation that considers itself scientific and rational, but refuses to admit the reality of basic human physiology. That is where we are now.

Frankly, me, neither.

People can adopt whatever cultural norms they want, like the Otaku.. Whether others accept them is a different story (When the courts start accepting lawsuits for ethnicity intolerance is when you'll start to see a change of acceptance.. wink )

I think when people stop thinking their ethnicity should be somehow closed off from all other races but their own, we will see change. The easiest way to have someone embrace your culture is for you to let them be a part of it without judgement.

Half of American white kids talk like they're black already. 😂

Based on where they grew up, they may be normal. If that's how you grew up, isn't that sort of expected?

If you identify as another species, are you still subject to the laws of man? I could maybe be Venusian, you never know. Can you prove with science my fee fee's don't make me think I'm Venusian?

socool8520
You would have to have a baseline for that culture. I don't know of any species that live there let alone a culture to adopt. lol If there were, then yeah I guess.

Every word you just typed was somehow racist.

socool8520
How? Every culture has distinct things that set it apart from other cultures. This is undeniable. If you appreciate said culture, it stands to reason you would adopt some of it. Maybe even all of it. That's the opposite of racist imo.

Surtur
Lol I was kidding.
