Well, end of Deceived Malgus Is basically FE Malgus without having mastered force maelstrom (and presumably natural growth,) and End of Deceived Malgus was able to overwhelm Aryn's dual saber defense with his lightning...prior to Malgus's boost at the end of Deceived, Aryn was essentially stalemating Malgus.

After Malgus killed Eleena and extinguished the last vestige of light in him he received a massive boost, as shown against Lord Adraas and had what the novel imply to be an accelerated growth of his connection with Force. A growth that described as "daily". Considering he had more than a decade after the End of Deceived, he should be substantially more powerful going by the quote - and his fight against the strike team.
