Sable
If the destroyer loses its head, can it keep operating?

TethAdamTheRock
No

BruceSkywalker
yes

Sable
What makes you think that, when all evidence points to the contrary?

Did you make this claim without offering proof?

Film
The Destroyer appears in the 2011 live-action film Thor. In this continuity, the Destroyer is depicted as a giant semi-autonomous construct created to act as a guardian who obeys the direct command of the King of Asgard, its main function being to protect Odin's chamber of relics. When Loki takes the throne and Thor is banished to Earth and stripped of his powers, Loki sends the Destroyer to Earth to kill the powerless Thor. Temporarily waylaid by several of Thor's friends, it continued its advance through the small New Mexico town of Puente Antiguo until Thor stepped forward to face it alone. Thor appealed to Loki through the Destroyer, asking him to take his life, but leave the nearby populace alone. The Destroyer then dealt him a mortal blow, but his nobility proves him worthy to wield Mjolnir once again, allowing him to fight the Destroyer by lifting it off the ground in a tornado. When the Destroyer fires its beam weapon, Thor uses Mjolnir to charge through the beam and thrust it into the Destroyer's head, causing its power to turn in on itself and blow its head up, damaging it beyond its ability to function.

So since blowing its head up in the movie destroys it, why do you think it will still be able to function?

Sable
Bump

Silent Master
While there was an explosion, the Destroyers head was still intact.

I guess you can't read, lets try again.

"Thor uses Mjolnir to charge through the beam and thrust it into the Destroyer's head, causing its power to turn in on itself and blow its head up, damaging it beyond its ability to function."

Silent Master
Generally speaking, people take the statement that something was blown up to mean that it was destroyed, it would be more accurate to say there was an internal explosion.

Sable
So do you think if it loses its head, it can still operate and use its directed beam?

Silent Master
I'm not convinced it'll lose its head in the first place, which makes this particular question moot.

Surtur
This can be answered quite simply: do we ever see the thing operate without a head? Either it has or it hasn't.

Sable
Its never operated without its head.

So then it can't.

Sable
Yea a few people here think it can, which is interesting to know why.

That's like saying we've never seen fully powered Thor without his hammer for extended periods of time. So it probably means when Mjolnir gets destroyed he'll be powerless.

Or like saying have we ever seen Wonder Woman fight without her bracelets? No? Then she probably can't fight without them.

Sable
Have any proof it can fight without its head?

Silent Master
I'm not convinced that WW can cut it's head off, so this question is rather moot.

Sable
Wonder Woman isn't part of the discussion, it's just more about if his head was removed could he. If you don't think Women Woman can, say Dr. Manhattan took his head off, could he keep operating.

Silent Master
We all know what conversation prompted this thread, I can easily post a link.

Sable
It doesn't matter, feel free to post whatever. Regardless of who cuts it off, rips it off, blasts it's off. All points to it not working anymore if it's removed.

Silent Master
Who cares?

Sable
Who cares about pointless movie vs discussions?

Silent Master
Now that you've gotten your answer to this pointless question, what are you going to do with the information?

Sable
It's a ongoing discussion, thanks for you input.

Silent Master
The discussion will end as neither side can actually prove their stance.

Sable
I've seen threads go on a lot longer then this. If you don't want to discuss it anymore feel free not to.
