Are you talking about that animated Space Marines movie? If so, I don't really remember it very well, but I recall being really disappointed in the portrayal of the Space Marine's power levels.

Yup pretty disappointing, but according to the movie the Imperial Fist's 5th Company (which Carnak was a member of) hold off both chaos space marines and chaos daemons in Mithron (a chapter shrine) for three weeks, when the Ultramarines arrived as a reinforcement only Chaplain Carnak & Nidon (another space marine) survived.
