Saw this posted in a thread; not sure exactly where it was first featured.
The base of it, of course, is Superman versus Muhammad Ali, circa late 1970s.
The theme of Harley Quinn versus Superman, but with Quinn in the role of hero, follows the relatively recent Injustice series. The artwork of Quinn is done well enough and inserted seamlesslessly enough that I suspect an actual DC professional or two had their hands in this. I'll update with more complete information if I ever happen upon it.

Supposedly writer Chris Claremont debated having Rogue revealed as a biological daughter of Mystique instead of a merely taken in and cared for runaway.
I rather prefer things the way they turned out, granting Mystique a far deeper and more humane character.

Amazes me sometimes how often the themes of one-eyed symbolism, "beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven", and transhumanism are shown in today's literature. Well, 1 and 3 at least. In the comicbook world, the meme of #2 has been seen since the World War II days of Captain Marvel, if not before, and the X-Men were practically founded on the transhumanism idea. This sort of thing is not usually something that keeps me up at night, mind you, but it IS something I notice from time to time.

I feel I should explain one thing for any pre-2010 Wonder Woman fan, and that is that the mythology has changed since you last read to a more "humanistic" one.
No longer are Diana's patrons a sort of larger version of hero.
Instead they are reflective of how the Greek Pantheon was portrayed in Classical Literature. They are fully capable of the worst humanity can imagine, and possibly beyond, because of their greater power.

Nor, with her upbringing, is Diana inherently better.
She is no longer a clay creation given life by Hera or any number of Greek goddesses. She is instead the result of an affair between Hippolyta and Zeus, much, again, like her story would have likely read if she truly were a creation of the Classical Greek literary age.

That's true in mainstream DC, and that's true here, where the stresses of their job and unendurable loss has made some of the heroes go mad.

And so Hera reacts to Diana and Hippolyta accordingly.

She cannot punish Zeus as he deserves, and, on a very real level, does not want to. She is still very much in love with him, and instead reacts as any jealous woman might if unchecked against his paramour and her offspring.
Actually, compared to what the mainstream version of Hera was doing during this period, dubbed "Nu52", the Injustice version of Hera is showing remarkable restraint in her actions ...

TurboImageHost.com (TIH) has proven so reliable as an outside image host provider (IHP) that it's annoying when it DOESN'T work, as today as I type these lines.

It is also sobering to remember that other I.H.Ps went out and STAYED out.
Such was frustratingly common a decade ago, which is why my early and even mid posting history here saw me using KMC's own IHP. No matter how inferior to websites that specialize in that, KMC was reliable. People could ALWAYS come and visit and expect to view what I posted and actually view what I posted.
Then I started my most infamous thread and suddenly KMC's images now required registration to view, cutting me off from the bulk of my audience.

TIH's current hiccup brings unwelcome memories.
Hopefully they'll remain memories. Today (I'm assuming TurboImageHost WILL return, and in short order, as it has before at least twice now, and thus that the following will be viewable as was the case for another image uploaded via TIH http://www.killermovies.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=609392&pagenumber=23#post16632235
during a temporary "down" period) I'll just try to record what happened, and what I got,



and perhaps even try to upload more in good faith for the day TIH makes its THIRD return ...




... which I see is now in actual doubt this time, as, unlike previous times, TIH is NOT able to let me upload visuals at all.

Less is not always more, here "more" actually does give the sense of less.
It's a weird and maddening paradox, because even a lot of women liked the overall sense of fullness and bodily strength Cho invested in her.

Have to say, I actually prefer the less colorized renditions of Cho's work here.
Sometimes colonists are amazing, transcendent, really, but here, the qualities I admire ...

Reminds me now that Jamal Igle did a GREAT rendition of Silver Age Wonder Woman in black-and-white for a fan back in 2009 or thereabouts for Wonder Woman day that year.

Might have to track that down ...

I went ahead and did so.

Along the way I discovered Jamal actually DID get a chance to work on Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, despite being in a book whose title SUGGESTS the Silver and Golden ages of Wonder Woman, ie Sensation Comics (#33 & 34 iirc, circa 2015), the book has dark themes and an art style entirely inappropriate for the general audience that used to be its target demographic.


Mores the pity.

At any rate, I discovered I was right; Jamal himself explains in some Google entry that he ORIGINALLY drew the piece I was seeking in 2009, though he himself did a coloring of it 4 years later:

Here, as with Cho shown a post or two earlier, I have to say I prefer the I colored work. It's kind of weird, but the black and white version is more evocative; sort of like an Ansel Adams photograph, at least to me:

Annoying.

An encore is in order here, for people may get the idea that, because I've publicly argued with Jamal before and am critiquing his work that I don't genuinely appreciate certain aspects of it.
Little could be further from the truth, and, in fact, years ago I gave it praise in a thread devoted to artists who managed to convey a sense of the "tactile" in one or more of their works.

3. Kara Zor-el versus Silver Banshee, Shea Stadium

This scene is remarkable for how well it captures instinctive response.
There's no sense of artificial posing. What you see from Kara is nearly exactly what you see from anyone under sudden attack from a source coming straight to the face. One arm instantly positions its hand as a shield close to the face itself, the other extends quickly outward to block or push away the attacker. Eyelids shut, chin goes down close to chest if it can. The only major departure from this classic response is that Kara holds her shielding hand against her ear, perfectly appropriate under the circumstances, a vain attempt to block the sonic nature of Banshee's assault. Banshee herself is a grasping, screeching, muscular harpy-like figure. Her flexed bicep implies her physical strength, her other hand, though, stretching the material of Supergirl's outfit as she grabs at Kara's chest, looks like the claw of some giant bird of prey.
The detail that makes this, though, is Kara's hand on Banshee's forehead, striving desperately to keep that dangerous cawing mouth from either neck or ears. It's a masterpiece in the way it captures the painful, desperate intimacy of close-quarters struggle.

Surprised as I get older, sometimes, what resonant time capsules comics often make. For instance, nowadays a movement called "Crossfit" dominates the exercise scene. 15-20 years ago, however, the movement was "Step-Aerobics", which was frequently combined with strength and weight training.
The personality most at the forefront of it was a woman named Cathe Friedrich.
Her show used to be featured so often on ESPN that you could scarcely avoid it if you randomly channel-surfed past that cable station. Which was not necessarily a bad thing. Cathe showed, in this era before Crossfit, that women who treated themselves right could remain competitive with the average 20-something even into their 30s or 40s, as did most of her regular TV crew.
I'm amazed I'd largely forgotten them till now, but obviously Garth Ennis did not, nor did Garth fail to comment on how our then Commander-in-Chief, rightly or wrongly, was portrayed by the media in that same time period:

Found a somewhat momentarily fascinating word origin for the phrase on Stack Exchange which suggested the t stands for tittle.

I was really struck by the artist's portrayal of the Hen's would be victim in that Mary Marvel comic scan. The Hen is remarkably strong for an old woman; I could see her finding much happiness with Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture, of Spider-Man comics, truthfully, and Mary Marvel is, of course, Mary Marvel, but the green dressed woman herself looks athletic as far as heiresses go, REMARKABLY so. She could almost pass for a crossfit practitioner of our modern era. Maybe not elite, but not TOO far off, either ...

Speaking of Harley Quinn, her insanity today is a LOT more benign than it used to be, and happily so. Describing the darkness of yesteryear, I don't think I can top the description someone else wrote here, so I won't try:

I didn't get why when I first read it but a something I read later (I think it was a letters page left out of the collection or something, my first issues were in a trade) stated that it was "Harleyvision" and sort of how Harley justified (to herself) doing awful things and also a sign of her breaks with reality. Whenever Harley is about to do something really bad, like say, murder a mook who betrayed her, suddenly it's all cartoony and the mook just looks dazed after the explosion.
