Ratcat
I've just seen the trailer for this Movie and it looks AWESOME!!!! My bet for the summer smash for 2001.

You can check it out at www.planetoftheapes.com

Gundark
Thanks for the link, RC. I don't have time to download it now, I'm at work and we're swamped. I don't even have time to be posting this....but I can't stay away. stick out tongue

finti
So they are making new versions of this series? Whos in it I`ll download it later.

Ratcat
Mark Wahlberg stars. Tim Burton is directing. The apes look amazing.

finti
Tim Burton, so its gonna be a dark feature then?

Ratcat
Yeah. He says it's not so much a remaking of the original but a reuse of the story idea with new characters and situations. It does look good.

JediOasis
I've also heard that there is a different surprise ending. Any guesses?

Ratcat
I haven't really heard much on this movie until just this week.

queeq
Nice trailer. Doesn't reveal too much of the movie though. The apes look nice but they still wear rubber masks. I like the production design a lot, but I always do with Burton. He rocks and I'm pretty sure this one will rock too.

Ratcat
There are some CGI apes to I believe. Some of those moves didn't look like a stunt man to me.

queeq
Oh yeah. Well, I just watched it briefly on medium resolution.

Ratcat
I managed to get the full 640 version down and played it at full screen. It looks good.

queeq
But you have a very fast connection. Lucky you. I'll just do that with the SW trailers.

finti
I really dont like Tim Burton`s stuff seems to me he forgott the light crew.

Ratcat
Well, this one seems to take place in the desert and in the forest so I think you get a bit of both.

queeq
You have such strange taste in films, finti. He may not always have the best storylines, or at least I'd understand if you don't like his storylines, but don't touch the production design, dude. It is awesome.

And it takes a really good eye for lighting to make his films look the way they do.

Ratcat
There speaks the voice of experience. Actually, I loved what he did to Batman. Pity it went downhill with later directors, though that was as much to do with the stories as anything else.

queeq
True. But the first Batman wasn't all that superb, Nicholson stole the show. Now Batman Returns, that was awesome. I still watch that one from time to time with great pleasure, great pleasure.

finti
I have strange taste in films? hmm I would say those who likes TB stuff have starnge taste. As of Batman another comic hero they didn`t need to put on the screen.
The best film I`ve seen latley is the Patriot, Almost famous, and I`m going to see Enemy at the gates of dawn this weeekend. Hannibal was a bummer, but I read the book before and never see a filmatisation of a book, only exception is A time to kill.

Ratcat
I like all of the batmans, though 3 and 4 not so much as 1 and 2

JediOasis
"Almost Famous?" I didn't love that movie, not what I expected smile Anyhoo, who else is it in the movie besides Marky Mark.

Ushgarak
Schindler's List was a good film of a book. Exactly what a film of a book should be- cut out enough to keep it a film, sand not so much that the point was missed. So he had to re-arrange things a little; I think it was a brilliant conversion.

queeq
Jaws is the ultimate film of as book: a lot better!!!!

I read an interesting interview with Sydney Pollack a a while back. He said he preferred to buy the rights to bad books with great ideas. Thus he could use the great idea and turn it into a film. The rights are cheap and the author's no bother since his book was lousy anyway. He said that a good book is difficult to make into a movie, since it is so good AS a book. Umberto Eco also said something about that when Jean-Jacques Annaud made Name of the Rose, he said that he didn't want to butt in in the moviemaking because "a film is a film and a book is a book".

Gundark
I don't think planet of the apes is gonna be another series of movies, finti, just one. Or at least that's what I heard. The Patriot was excellent...it you really gave you a clear impression of what they were fighting for over here and what they sacrificed in their personal lives. We rented that the weekend we rented The Green Mile. That was also very good.

I read Jaws after I saw the movie, queeq...I agree the movie was MUCH better.

queeq
I read it after the movie as well (wink ) and it was a bit of a letdown, I think. Spielberg really made a good story out of story.

Gundark
Yeah I'm glad he didn't drag that Ellen/Hooper thing into it. And Roy Scheider is much better than the Brody described in the book. stick out tongue

queeq
Almost everything is better than the book. Even Quint.

finti
Everything, but the shark.laughing out loud

queeq
And that's why Spielberg cut him out most of the time.

Gundark
Did you know....(Gundy's bit o'trivia here) that the last day of filming on the Jaws set, the crew was gonna toss Spielberg into the water ? He got wind of it and dressed in all leather and suede clothes that day and the crew decided they couldn't do it, being as the salt water would have destroyed everything he was wearing ! laughing out loud

queeq
Didn't know that. laughing out loud

I loved Dreyfuss talking about the problems with the shark. He said in a doc on the Jaws-DVD that for months they heard the walkie-talkies going like this: "The shark's not working, the shark's not working." And then near the end of the production they finally heard something else: "The shark is working, the shark is working." laughing out loud

Anyway, Spielberg said Jaws was a fun movie to watch but not a fun movie to make.

Ushgarak
I don't want to sound all Briitsh and pompous here, but the Patriot was APPALLING from a historical perspective. And I just don't mean that form a scholarly point of view... what is it with Mel Gibson and British oppression, anyway? Won't ever catch him doing an aboriginal rights movie, will you?

Not as annoying as U-571, though.

queeq
I heard U-571 was very nice, historically incorrect, but a nice movie nevertheless. And I still have to see The Patriot, heard mixed reports about that one.

Gundark
I understand what you're saying, Ush...I guess he figures thats a good subject for big money-makers.

I think one of the best parts of Jaws was when Quint was telling the story of the USS Indianapolis. IMHO.

Ya know, queeq, RC is gonna be really mad when he comes back and sees how we've twisted his Apes topic into a Jaws thread. I guess that'll mean we've done well. laughing out loud laughing out loud

queeq
Not done well, we did excellently. laughing out loud

Did you know the Indianapolis story is Spielberg's favourite scene?

Raz
No, I didn't

Haven't seen Jaws in a long time. I think I was about 14 since I last saw it.
Although Jaws 3 was on TV a couple of days ago, didn't really think much of it really...

queeq
Jaws 2, 3 and 4 SUCK!!!!!

The first one is SUPERB! Go see it again. They re-released it on video and DVD for the 25th anniversary. And they released a wonderful special edition of the soundtrack: John Williams of course. With previoulsy unreleased music and unused music!

Gundark
Oh I agree...the other the Jaws were terrible. Especially 4, with Ellen going after the shark. sick

Chaos & Mayhem strike again ! laughing out loud

finti
Yeah Jaws 2,3 and 4 does suck just as al Star Trek movies suck!!!!!!!!!1

queeq
And finti-the-movie-fan strikes again. laughing out loud

Gundark
Finti has the drinkbot to cover for him while he's at his other job, reviewing movies. laughing out loud

queeq
I think the Drinkbot should review the movies, he sucks at serving drinks. laughing out loud

finti
Well I made him into a table, maybe we can store movies on it, ehh Star Trek the entire series and films, Babylon and then we set fire to it and have a Sci-Fi barbecue, EU free meat and sausages of course. And drinks are on queeq as always in the weekendssmile

queeq
So aside from SW, are there ANY movies you like at all? laughing out loud

finti
Indeed. I do like Jaws 1, both Terminator movies, Robin Hood prince of thiefs. Dances with wolfs, Patriot, Almost Famous( I`m a musical lover) I love the Pink Panther movies. Breakfast Club was cool, James Bond are great. Warriors a clasic. Chevy Chase`s stuff with the Griswald family and Fletch, A time to kill was brilliant, The Green Mile was nice. I like a lot of movies just not he most mentioned in this forumsmile (for the dopey ones that does not include SW)

queeq
Robin Hood prince of thiefs is the most surprising for me. That movie is not very high on my list.

So do you find older movies boring as well? And name some of the others. My collection includes movies from all ages. Fight Club perhaps?

finti
I generally dont like older movies, the older movies I like are James Bond, Fight Club is ok, I forgott a great movie in my postingmessedave privat Ryan. American X was good U-571 became a little to much "All American Hero" to me. Braveheart was great. Rob Roy was good, Trainspoting, Starship Troopers, Traines, planes and automobiles, I actually like Grease belive it or not, but I do. Pulp Fiction.

Gundark
Rob Roy was great. My favorite PP movie was "return of" when Clouseau was in the hotel room with that vacuum cleaner. OMG, I was on the floor. Have you ever seen "The Great Race" with Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood ?

finti
Yes I have and I also found out that the Planat of the apes is the real name for EUlaughing out loud

Ushgarak
Add Trainspotting to the list of good films of books.

queeq
Fav Pink Panther: Strikes again. Inspector Dreyfus is superb and so is Sellers.

Trainspotting great! But Shallow Grave was better.

Ushgarak
But one day Ewan McGregor will kill Danny Boyle for not casting him in The Beach...

queeq
Ewan wanted to kill Boyle for starring in As Good as it Gets. laughing out loud

Gundark
We just watched "american beauty" last night. What a bizarre movie ! Not what I expected from the title at all. Did anybody else see this ?

finti
Yes and Spacey is brilliant in it, I liked it.

Ushgarak
Yeah. Great film.

Gundark
Some of the stuff he said, I just laughed my head off ! laughing out loud

Wouldn't ya like to lay some of that on your boss sometime ? laughing out loud laughing out loud

queeq
Excellent movie. Excellent. Spacey was great, so was Bening.

Gundark
Tonight we're gonna watch Fargo...anybody see this one ?

queeq
Great! Wonderful! Finti will probably hate it, but I love it. But then I'm biased, I love the Coen borther's work.

Gundark
Okay, here I am, back upstairs from watching Fargo. Pretty good, didn't think the wife was dead at first though.

Ushgarak
And muchly true as well... disturbing, eh?

Gundark
Yeah, it was rather getting rather bizarre by the end.

Ushgarak
It's a great film, but it wears me down to watch it... hardly an upbeat film. Relentless is more the term. Good triumphs, but you hardly feel great about it.

Gundark
Actually The Elephant Man was THE MOST DEPRESSING film I have ever watched in my whole life. Nothing has ever come close. Have you seen it ?

Ushgarak
Oh yeah... I was leaping about and whooping with laughter after that one.

Gundark
I think the black and white photography really laid bare the reality of the story, but I'm sure it was still sugar-coated compared to Merrick's real life. Horrid squalor doesn't begin to describe it.

Ushgarak
Good old John Hurt. He deserves a Star Wars part, actually.

Gundark
Yeah, I think he would fit in pretty good.

Ushgarak
Along with David Warner and Jude Law.

Gundark
Maybe we could get jobs as assistants to Robin Gurland. laughing out loud

Ushgarak
Well, they wouldn't let me write any Star Wars.... seems very insular to me...

Gundark
I write SW for myself....although my brother enjoys reading it. I'm working on a story right now about the end of ESB...Luke giving in to Vader instead of jumping off the gantry. Not giving in to the darkside, and he will end up back with the alliance...kind of a side-track before they rescue Han. I'm very nit-picky though...it has to read just right. And I have to figure out how to get him off the executor and back to the fleet. "Beyond Empire" is the working title, but I'll change it when I'm done.

Ushgarak
Nice. I bet Leia isn't his sister in your world.

Gundark
Ah, see through me you do !! smile

Ushgarak
Fellow-writer empathy

Gundark
Thats just a polite way of saying starving artist. Although I do have a day job. laughing out loud

Ushgarak
That's better than me...

Gundark
It does pay the Visa bill. Well, some of it. laughing out loud

finti
We can all see Ush and Gundy`s talent in the role playing area. Me I`m just hanging in there struggeling, I`m not much of a writer, but its great fun to give it a try.
I love to read books though.

Gundark
You're doing just fine, finti...I'm glad you decided to contribute. Its just for fun, not a writing contest, and I'm glad you joined us. smile

queeq
Ah yes, the role playing. I have to get into that.

Anyway, when can we read the transcript to "Beyond Empire", a first draft or so?

Gundark
Ahem, are you serious that you want to read it, or are you teasing me ? stick out tongue

finti
come on queeq join us, Ush and Gundy is on the light side, me I`m dark of course plotting an evil plan.smile Join my plan and lets make some trouble for Ush and Gundark. They are very good at writing by the way. They have ehh ok talent.

queeq
I have arrived at Gard. So eat your heart out, this one's not a character to mess with. laughing out loud

And yes, Gundy, I meant it. I can be serious you know.... from time to time.

finti
your time to time, queeq, must be the shortest eclipse of time in the history of timekeeping.rolling on floor laughing

queeq
Yes, I'm good. Ain't I? laughing out loud

keokiswahine
*stands in awe* queeq, where are we? eek!

queeq
Sit down, keo. Relax, have a drink. You're on the Episode-ii.co.uk discussion forum.

FINTI, what did you give her!!!! laughing out loud

finti
Finti hides the bottle of gungan blood.
I just gave her?(are you shure it`s a she)Glen Dagobah ale and a Milkshake ohh the Milkshake was from British cows. oopssmile refils all the cups with Norwegian Milkshakes from sane Norwegian cows

Gundark
well, queeq-darling, since I'm not gonna re-type the whole freakin thing in the literature forum, you're just gonna have to e-mail me your e-mail address now. evil face

queeq
Yes, ma'am. The plans will soon be back in our hands. laughing out loud

finti
Plans? Finti looks down in the dustbin where he threw the papers he used to clean the spilled red fruit punch.

Gundark
Ah, queeq....you may want to talk to finti about those plans. laughing out loud

queeq
So when am I getting any scriptures from the Gundy lady?

keokiswahine
blue milk is not of Britain or them thar places. comes from a special way out there place.

Gundark
It's on my computer at home and I'm at work right now.

(Sigh) The boy has no patience.....stick out tongue

Darth Gehenna
This is off topic, but other people that are in Planet of the Apes are Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, and Michael Clarke Duncan.

Raz
Actually you'll be taking us back on topic laughing out loud
Thanks for the info

Gundark
Thanks GD, and you're certainly NOT off topic. Its purely uncontrolled chaos that constantly takes us off topic. laughing out loud

Thanks for your info ! smile

finti
Tim Roth, Mr white. good it might be worth my while then.
Hello Cheeta where`s Jane?smile

queeq
Helena Bonham Carter.....hmmmmm.... nice.

keokiswahine
yes, queeq.

Ushgarak
He's quite the Ladies' Man, isn't he?

Got a bit of a Cheers theme going here, queeq, haven't you?

keokiswahine
yes, quite the stud.

Ushgarak
Actually, that might make me Cliff Clavin... oh dear...

keokiswahine
nah, you're not Cliffy; are you?

Ushgarak
Well, I appear to be the guy who always sits there waiting for a girl to turn up and giving out vast amounts of worrying facts and data. But I'm not a postman.

queeq
Don't worry, Ush. I'm sure we can find you a position at the post office. Maybe you should not be so subordinate to that witch, I think she likes a guy who takes control. *Chaos is unfolding evil face *

finti
Girls always want the guy to take control, they just dont dare say it out load.smile

Gundark
Oh I'm guessing Ushgarak would make a great postman. We'll have to ask Edna if he really looks just like Kevin Costner. laughing out loud

I don't have to ask queeq out loud to take control, finti....he did that from day one. laughing out loud

queeq
And there she is, enjoying it every day. laughing out loud

Gundark
Oh yes, the wonderful world of Disney...(scratches head, hmmmm...wait a minute, that's not right) Ahem, oh yes, the wonderful world of Sith Mind Manipulation. laughing out loud

queeq
We should start our own amusement park. And then I'll take you there. laughing out loud

Gundark
Sithworld. laughing out loud It will have lots of shafts. laughing out loud
