...Maybe not, but I think the implication is that Poe Dameron is intended to be at least mildly force-sensitive.

By the time of TFA, Poe was already regarded at the best pilot in the Galaxy:

*And in many cases(not all) pilots that damn hyped are force-sensitive to at least *some* degree. What's more, Poe has actually lived up to his hype in the films/novels/comics.

As for where Poe's force-sensitivity might stem from...

Shortly after the events of RotJ, Poe's mother, Shara Bey, helped Luke retrieve two Uneti trees that had once grown in the heart of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant -- both of which were very strong with the force. After they obtained the trees, Luke took one and gave the other to Shara, who planted it near her family's home on Yavin 4. We first learned about this in the canon comic series Journey to TFA: Shattered Empire:

And the above scene was referenced again in TLJ novelization:

That said, I have a few questions...

-First off, do you think it's possible that the Uneti tree Poe spent so much time around in his youth 'imprinted' the force onto him in some way? That would certainly explain why he's such an unbelievably talented pilot.

-Secondly, do you think the mythos will ever expand upon any latent force-abilities Poe may have(perhaps make him one of Rey's first force-sensitive cohorts/students), or do you think he'll just remain a fighter pilot?

-Lastly, what do you think became of the Uneti tree Luke took? Did he plant it in the heart of his Jedi Temple when he tried to reestablish the Order(which means it was likely destroyed by Kylo), or did he plant it elsewhere?

One Big Mob
Luke clearly knew her. Maybe he just dumped a load in her in ANH or something and that's where it came from. If it doesn't ever get expanded on, this is my headcanon.

Zentrex
I don't think so. I mean he had a special connection to Luke Skywalker, and it might make some sense from a logical perspective a little bit if you're willing to stretch the rules, but it makes absolutely no sense from a storytelling perspective.

Galan007
It just got me thinking because Rey has essentially been given free-reign to recast the Jedi Order however she sees fit... And if she can sense the force in Poe at all, then maybe he will play a MUCH bigger role in stories to come.

True, true...

Episode X: The Next Jedi

Stigma
Hopefully not.

Why?

ngl, I think it would be awesome if Poe became Reys first pupil at some point. big grin

Galan007
The plot thickens...

Poe: "I took down nine TIEs in one run. Nine, and a bunch of ground targets, too... It felt amazing. Like I was really tapping into something."
Rey: "You know, Poe, that kind of sounds like the force..."
Poe: "Nah. I don't have the force, Rey. I grew up with this Tree... It's kind of complicated to explain, but if I had it, I think I'd know."

Poe is definitely force-sensetive, imo.

Why? Because the force is already massively over-represented in the Star Wars mythos and it's gay that only force sensitives can be turbo badasses.

The sequel trilogy has done a good job thus far of dodging the mistakes the prequel made in making everything Jedi-centric. It'd be a real shame for them to **** it up now.

But he says hes sure he doesnt have the Force.

Being a great pilot in itself doesnt probe anything unless Han Solo is also force sensitive.

victreebelvictr
many people were amazing pilots like finn, solo, lando, and poe. doesnt mean that they have the force. it just means that they are very good at flying ships. thrawn was good at strategies, doesnt mean that he is force-sensitive.

Right after Rey says that it sounded like he was describing THE FORCE... Right after Poe mentioned growing up with the UNETI TREE, which is STRONG WITH THE FORCE.

Moreover, Poe just said that he "thinks" he'd know if he could use the force... Which doesn't preclude the notion that he might *subconsciously* be using the force when he pilots. In fact, it sounds like that is EXACTLY what he does, tbh.

...But if you honestly want to believe that's all coincidence, be my guest.

Getting a bit sensitive over the issue arent you?

My opinion is just based on his reaction to Rey suggesting it was the Force. Tapping into something could just be his own human potential.

Clearly they want us to keep guessing if hes a force user or not, but by no means is it confirmed.

Eh, the difference is that the pilots you mentioned have never been implied to be force-sensitive at all... Poe has been.

And what in the world does Thrawn's aptitude for strategies and tactics have to do with this topic? You completely lost me with that one... confused

Clearly they want us to keep guessing if hes a force user or not, but by no means is it confirmed. Not at all. Just highlighting/reiterating the facts.

Poe has NO formal training in the ways of the force -- he wouldn't know if he were channeling it one way or the other. That said, everything we know about him thus far(especially given what was revealed in this issue) suggests that he IS force-sensitive, thanks to having grown up with the Uneti Tree.

Whether you like the thought of Poe being a subconscious force-user is irrelevant... I'm just saying that the implications are pretty explicit at this point. /shrug

Galan007
Well, all of these subtle hints alluding to Poe being Force-sensitive were evidently scrapped in favor of making Finn a Force-user...

Maybe they both are. But I only see Finn as a potential padawan for Rey.

Galan007
Now it's just going to be Finn and Broom Boy.
