I was reading through the World War Thing thread, where the original poster (OP) of the thread asks us to posit what would happen if "Pineapple" Thing, complete with the strength of "Classic" Hulk foe, Abomination, took the place of Bruce Banner, as the series' primary antagonist. Thing was found wanting against so many of the challenges that people started putting street level characters against him as a joke, like Daredevil and Bronze Tiger.

I recalled then, though, unless I'm mistaken, which I might be, that Bronze Tiger once actually helped save the world against a MAJOR power in the Marvel Comics Universe (MCU) in the form of Shuma Gorath:

The speech given by Tiger's "patron" entity made me think about how implausibly, incredibly well-defended Earth in either MCU or DCU actually is. Beings with empires literally spanning galaxies often leave well clear of the planet knowing what a fight they'll have on their hands if they try to conquer or destroy it.

What are the instances you've seen of Earth accorded great respect as a target to be carefully approached? Which reality's Earth, MCU or DCU, is accorded the MOST respect or beaten the greatest odds, with aid perhaps even coming from the unlikeliest or most unpredictable quarters?

Discuss.

That Star Trek parody always makes me chuckle.
