How much did Solo suck?

Haven't seen it and don't plan to unless it gets crazy praise, which it hasn't from critics, but I wanna hear you guys' thoughts.
DarthAnt66
I thought it was really good. I thought most of the characters were great, the world building was strong, and the tension / comedy good and consistent. The weakest part was the battles, but even that was decent.
NewGuy01
It was fine, go see it.
Haschwalth
Ain't gonna bother rotten tomatoes has it at 54%
Kurk
I'm pretty set on not seeing it in theaters. Rotten Tomator and IMDb have spoken.
quanchi112
Decent at best but the surprise at the end is worth the price of admission for me. Seeing it again just for that. The acting is all pretty well done I just never cared for Solo and these characters. Not my thing my thing arrives at the end.

Did Darth Maul appear in the end?

Yes...and just as painful to watch as he usually is.

Wait what Maul's actually in it? Lol
DarthDuelist9
Yeah, he was apparantly quite active around that time. It's a short cameo but it's nice

Maul appears in a cameo that makes little sense for it's place in the timeline, yes.
Don't see this movie. There's literally two better ones you could see again. Likely for less as well.

It's 8 years after RotS IIRC, of course it's logical Maul's still active.

Nope, he just tells Danaerys that their partnership is going to expand. He activates his lightsaber on the hologram for some reason.

As someone who doesn't like the direction Disney is taking the franchise, it wasn't that bad, I was planning on not seeing it but I was invited to watch it so I caved.

No, he only has a brief appearance. It's the crime bosses working under Maul that are the big players in the movie.

This movie was somewhere in between Pure Meh. and Kinda Ok.
Wait for DVD.

wtf why did you guys spoil it

Did you guys notice any Easter eggs in Dryden's office? There were a lot of relics- figure some of them were there for a reason lol.
as for Maul- i'm glad they used his voice from TCW and Rebels. it fits him nicely. What was with him randomly igniting the saber though?

As Total Warrior mentioned: the lightsaber was just a blatant way to show viewers it was indeed Maul, and not just another criminal boss or w/e. Keep in mind, casual viewers(that is to say, those who've never watched any SW media outside the primary films) would have absolutely NO idea that Maul was 'resurrected', and running most of the criminal underworld in the timeframe Solo is set... As far as they are concerned, he died way back in TPM.
So as I'm sure you can imagine, his cameo has cause quite a bit of outrage across the interweb... People just don't understand why/how the dude is still randomly alive, and why/how he's in charge of all the baddies, lol. That said, I would imagine the episodes of TCW and Rebels that center around Maul will receive a spike in viewership in the next few weeks. /shrug

We shouldn't support shit. Your ticket is your vote if you don't buy it forces Disney to make better movies.
DarthSkywalker0
As long as Disney has the franchise, there will be more Star Wars. The question becomes what type of Star Wars do we want. If Disney creates a movie which is excellent, we should then go to the theater to support their product.

My stance exactly. Quality over quantity. I don't want to see them ruin this franchise by milking the cash cow to death.
DarthSkywalker0
Yea, I understand that to each his own I guess. But admittedly, I will keep on seeing them as well unless they really go off the rails.
Galan007
I enjoy the brand as much as anyone, but I'm not going to pay to see a film that I have absolutely NO interest in, like Solo. I have never wanted to see a film about a young Han Solo anymore than I've wanted to see a film about a young Indiana Jones... Some stories just don't need to be told, imho. /shrug
Regardless, Kathleen Kennedy needs to go away. That woman is the worst thing that's happened to the franchise since Kenobi's beard in AotC.

But I guess it's from the old republic era. Pretty cool that his desk is a Sith tablet tho. thx for that!
yeah i guess that makes sense for Maul. Still trying to figure out the timeline though. Solo takes place like 8 years after ROTS. how the heck does maul still have control of the criminal underworld? does he still control mandalore also?

Solo takes place like 8 years after ROTS. how the heck does maul still have control of the criminal underworld? does he still control mandalore also? After the events of Son of Dathomir(set just before RotS), Maul still controlled the Pykes, Black Sun, Dathomir, and Mandalore, and merged them all into a singular organization he called 'The Shadow Collective'.
In the Ahsoka novelization, Ahsoka confronted Maul on Mandalore just as Palpatine commenced Order 66. Maul escaped in the ensuing chaos, but ultimately lost Mandalore to the Empire.
Between the events of RotS and the Solo film, Maul has evidently gone back to his station as a boss in the criminal underworld, and reorganized the Shadow Collective into 'Crimson Dawn' -- and he evidently runs things from Dathomir. Unknown if Crimson Dawn is still an amalgamation of the Pykes, Black Sun, etc., but it is still a vast/powerful organization nonetheless.
Between the events of Solo and Rebels, Maul either lost(or flat-out abandoned) his position in the criminal underworld, and travelled to Malachor in order to obtain a weapon that would allow him to defeat Vader/Palpatine... And he remained stranded on the world for years(?), unable to unleash the 'Sith-super-weapon', until Ezra(and co.) ventured there in Season 2.
Beniboybling
In the movie its mentioned the Crimson Dawn have a fragile alliance with the Pykes, so they at least are no longer in it.
Anyway, very intrigued to see where they go with this.

Very nice.. now i just have to wonder WHOSE holocron that is? Is that mentioned anywhere?
See thats the part of Mauls timeline i hope the fleshout. How did he lose his position? He seems to have massive power and authority in this movie, so i'm surprised if he;d just give that up. And how did he even know about the Sith temple on malachor? Assuming he may have studied ancient Sith texts and what not.?

It is unlikely that Maul would just willingly give up his station without a fight. That said, he was clearly familiar with the Inquisitors and Vader during Rebels("I cannot defeat Vader alone", etc.), so I wouldn't be surprised if they had already fought at some point before Maul went to Malachor... That would explain why he was no longer running the criminal underworld in the Rebels era, and why he went into hiding/fled to Malachor in the first place.

-Darth Maul #2 (2017)
TheIndyJedi
The Darth Maul bit was obvious fanservice, but still it shows that Disney at least acknowledges their own canon. You would think they would be afraid to put someone like him in a movie, since the general audience (who these films are mainly aimed at) believed Maul died for real in Phantom Menace.
So in a way I am sort of impressed with Disney, eventhough their last few films haven't been that "great".

I'm curious what Maul was going on Dathomir, In Rebels S03E10 Maul made it clear that he considered Dathomir "home"--and we also know he'd spent a considerable amount of time there beforehand. After the death of Mother Talzin and the loss of Mandalore, it seems natural that Maul would go back to where it all began and rethink his strategy.
Also consider that Maul wouldn't want to risk attracting the attention of Palpatine again -- which might be why he abandoned the 'Shadow Collective' gimmick, and fashioned 'Crimson Dawn' from its ashes... He did lose Mandalore just as Order 66 commenced, after all. /shrug
...Though at some point it's clear the Empire did track Maul down, as it was all but stated that he'd encountered Vader and the Inquisitors prior to Rebels S02.

Feige is about to go full feminazi with Captain Marvel, though:
"She is the MCU's most powerful hero by far... If you had the collector cards of the Marvel characters and you could see the power levels, she would be off the charts compared to anyone that we've previously introduced in a film."

Yes to align with Rebels Canon, Vader should show Maul whose Boss at some point.
