Papa John's Pizza: Founder John Schnatter resigns over using the N-Word

John Schnatter, founder of the Papa John's pizza chain, used the N-Word on a conference call with a Marketing firm.

What did he actually say?

"Colonol Sanders called blacks n*ggers..."

Note: Words in brackets are a paraphrase but very close to his original statement.

John then goes on to say he grew up in a very racist neighborhood where black people were sometimes captured, tied up, and dragged behind vehicles.

John stated that he intended these comments to demonstrate his antipathy towards racism but it backfired on him.

If you're among your friends and you're talking about racism, perhaps it might be okay to quote something while using the n-word. I don't recommend it. It would not offend me at all, not even a little bit. If you were slighted by a black person and you lashed out in anger and yelled it at the person, I would think less of you, but I would not crucify you. As your friend or pal, once you calmed down, I'd talk to you about it and suggest not using that language even in anger.

Should John have resigned from Papa John's after his comment?

Personally, I think he's gone too far too many times and he should step down to save the empire he built, just like he did. The pizza is good. I had it 3 times last week due to various circumstances. The pizza is great.

One Big Mob
The pizza is not great. It's like an alternate Dominoes.

Also lol at having Papa Johns 3 times after the incident. It'd be better if you never had it before though.

That being said, probably don't use that word in any public capacity. Whether you plan to drop a well intentioned n-bomb or not, it never turns out well. You can't say anything anymore, especially not that word. That's probably the top word you can't say.

I'd be interested to see how much it actually effected sales though. I'm sure it didn't stop stoned teens from ordering pizza afterall. I'm not a fan of people losing jobs over words, but it's part of the world now. The guy is ****ing loaded, I'm sure he'll scrape by. Poor Father John. I hope he can afford to feed his family at least adequate ingredients now.

Dominos is the best of all the major pizza chains. Best thing Papa Johns has going for it is the dipping sauce for the crust.

I think All American Pizza tastes best for fast pizza "national" chains.

Then Pizza Hut. Then Papa Johns. Then Dominos.

I prefer local pizza places, if you ever plan to come to New Jersey at the beach, Mack's Pizza is delicious, as well as Benito's Mexican Pizzeria.

Actually, it's if he could NOT care less that there might be a problem.

As phrased, there is a degree of caring he DOES possess, at least at present ...

I haven't had All American Pizza.

I don't like Pizza Hut's crust, it's too spongy. And their pizza seems very greasy.

Schnatter is a racist dick who exploits his labor. Whatever negative impact this has on his business will be his own fault.

That said, I never thought Papa John's pizza was very good, in spite of their hype about using better ingredients than competitors. Like Backfire said, the best thing about them was that they gave away dipping sauce for the crust at no additional cost. I've always favored Domino's Pizza over any other large pizza chains.

Pizza Hut's pizza is greasy and spongy, but the leftover slices are great if you heat them up on a pan/griddle on low heat. The crust crisps up rather nicely.

Lol, yes let us talk about problems. Like why you didn't think it was a problem for Rob to essentially imply all Trumpers are racist, but this guy who noted Rob's BS claiming he doesn't care if Papa John's founder was racist captures your attention? Explain that, I'd be interested. I'd like to assume you just didn't see the other nonsense posted.

Even if he called someone an N-Word Jim with no good intentions, he is no worse than the people championing Dominos here.

I don't want to live in the world where that is considered good pizza. It's edible at best. The sides are way better than the pizza.

never heard of all American... not really a fan of pizza hut. for some reason the crust tastes sweet to me especially the stuffed crust sick

dominoes is better especially they revamped like 6 years ago.

personally my family stopped eating papa johns when he started talking about how NFL protests are hurting his profits. he may not be racist but it kinda came off as he really did not care. and that is totally ok to have an opinion either way or to not have one at all. papa john did not have to respond period. its these kind of remarks that's just bad for business. period. should have been smarter or maybe he just can't help it?

papa john's relied too much on NFL product placement and ads when they should have revamped like dominoes and pizza hut with better online and different crust options and what not. this and the fact that NFL sponsorship is (if im not mistaken) the main reason they had those profits to lose in the first place, papa john should keep out of public until he learns how to speak for his business' bottom line.

that being said I would still prefer the taste of papa johns over pizza huts. smokin'

It was Forbes that originally broke this story? Really? Lol.

And it seems the media company was trying to extort Papa John's. Since this happened back in May and they just released it now. Weird. I don't know if I believe it, but I can't really explain why they waited 2 months before going to the media.

Adam_PoE
Stupid and narrow-minded enough to be a Trump supporter, apparently. I mean, you are basically complaining that someone made a generalization that proved to be true.

Domino's is one of the better large pizza chains, is all I meant. I enjoy it, but it doesn't compare to many independently-owned pizzerias.

Personally, I'm more offended by the phrase "The N-Word" than I am the word ******. "The N word" is just a way to water down a hateful thought and make it more palatable. But "The N Word" conveys the same thought as the actual word, it just forces people to translate the meaning inside their head to absolve one of the responsibility for saying it out loud, which is stupid and patronizing. Kinda reminds me of when I was younger and yelled out "God damn it" in school. This preppy b*tch freaked out and said that I should say "gosh dang it" because taking the Lord's name in vain was a big deal and I responded "God's smart enough to know what I really mean and he'd prob be more pissed about me thinking he was dumb enough to trick him".

I have ODD and sometimes it gets pretty severe but I control it as an adult very well. As a kid, it was more difficult to control. In 2nd grade, there was this girl that always snitched on everyone all the time for everything and I thought she was the most vile cretin in existence. One day, it was my turn to get into trouble. I told my friend that he was a stupidhead (we are joking quietly with each other during reading time and have a blast). Little Miss Cretin heard me as she was sitting not too far away. So she instantly started yelling at the teacher exclaiming that I said bad words. The teacher immediately started getting onto to me. I was furious that she snitched on me. How dare she. I didn't harm her at all. Just joking with my buddy.

I did what any rational 8 year old would do who had ODD: I jumped up and faced Little Miss Cretin and yelled "shit" as loud as I could in her face. I swear, I heard my teacher stifle laughter before yelling at me to go to timeout (it was a large toy castle that was big enough for 4 small children to sit inside...timeout didn't seem like much of a punishment as much as it did camping in the middle of class). I was in timeout until lunch which seemed like hours but it was probably 45 minutes. No one clapped. The whole bus didn't cheer. We were kids. I probably scared the p-word out of them.

I told you that whole story just to use "p-word" to make you mad. Suck it.

Would have been even more funny if she ended up being your wife.

Imagine seating down one day with her and say hey hunny, remember when you snitch on in school.

It is the best New York-style pizza in San Francisco.

Neapolitan is my favorite, there's this place a few minutes from my house with a brick wood-fired oven that does this style very well. New York-style is a very close second.

Actual serial killers should be called that no matter how nice they are. Same with a boy band that is "deep". If these labels apply they should be used.

The difference I see with Papa John's is...John Schnatter doesn't actually seem to be a racist. And yet he seems to have been ousted from his own company anyways. I don't give a shit if the pizza tastes like cardboard, he still isn't racist and still shouldn't have suffered any sort of penalty.

Pepe's basic garlic is awesome. That's the one presidents have eaten at.

Piccilio's used to be very good, but haven't visited them in years. They started burning the pizza's a little too crisp, and this thin guy skimped on the sizes (The fat guy was far more generous)

Gino's East in downtown Chicago makes great deep dish pizza. At night there is usually a line outside of people waiting to get in, so it's not something I go to often. Though you will find my name signed on the wall, as is tradition for customers there to do.

It noted how they were behind the hoax that the "okay" hand gesture was some sort of white power symbol. It wasn't, they just wanted to see if people would fall for it, and sure enough leftists in the media were citing it as racist.

Anyways, it also talked about how they created the "Pepe is racist" thing, which I didn't know was them. Apparently they saw celebrities starting to use the Pepe meme and got mad and decided to make people thing it was racist. And it worked lol.
