It is clear George Lucas doesn't think too highly of Vader as a combatant.
He refers to him as broken in some interviews.
And he also said something about the Jedi Being in their prime in the Prequel era, while the Original Trilogy has old broken robot men and young untrained boys who can barely use a lightsaber.
Furthermore, he claims that Ben Kenobi is a level 6 and Vader is a 4.

In terms of canonicity, how relevant are these statements? Should we lower Vader , or should we treat them as just outdated sources that don't hold much relevance anymore?
Thoughts?

The Merchant
Lucas more than likely intended for Vader, Kenobi, Luke, and Yoda to have been past their primes and weaker than their PT counterparts. The Statement about the OT being full of broken old men was compared to Maul vs. Kenobi and Qui Gon, so There's a good chance Lucas probably thinks those 3>anyone in the OT save the Emperor.

Yeah, it's pretty well established in canon that Vader's suit isn't at all the clunky hindrance that Lucas originally painted it as. Lords of the Sith, for example, goes into great detail about how Vader essentially thinks of the suit as a second skin, and even considers the suit as "home" after fully donning it -- likely because it plugs directly into his brain/spine, and as such, responds instantly to his every whim.

That said, it's clear that Vader is still intended to be VERY powerful and VERY skilled after the events of Mustafar.

What happens in the Lucas' house remains in Lucas' house.

Basically this, especially said since he's stated he hadn't followed the EU as well. That also said, he has also said the opposite given the whole 80% of Palps, but if he considers that weak then....dang.

That said, the other thoughts don't really matter given the EU has painted him as being a monster in both Force and combatant sense, fighting against those who had been in the Prime of the Jedi and survived even Order 66 which not many had done which makes them even greater.

The Purge series kinda drives it home. Among other things.

I mean...unless people really wanna think Vader was really weak and yet still able to pull off all the crazy stuff he did, then I really wanna see those definitions of weak.

People like DarthAnt don't see it in this way. He just goes by Lucas's quotes about him, ignoring the EU.

Darth Thor
Eu and Disney Canon both have him as a monster.

Also Filoni seems to think Lucas has Huge respect for Vaders power level and would not want anything to degrade that. Ergo why hes not used much in Rebels.

Where the heck did you get that idea? Vader in Canon is casually above the both of them at the same time.
