gauntlet o doom
What would be the ramifications if someone with the abilities of Harry Potter, wand included, appeared in the real world? Would he become a celebrity or retain a cult following asking to be taught magic? Would religions be questioned? Would he be assassinated? Would he be encouraged to rule the world? Would he be asked to solve the world's problems?

Dr Will Hatch
Voldemort gets shot by a sniper.

Tzeentch
Captured by the military and experimented on relentlessly

Silent Master
Well, he's kind of dumb and not very good at magic, so I don't see anyone trying to put him in charge of anything.

jaden_2.0
He'd get called a wee specky bastard.

Putinbot1
If he kept his abilities secret, he could become incredibly wealthy and powerful.

The revelation that magic is real would have *cantilabric* effects upon the human condition. It would begin a major paradigm shift, jostling political, philosophical, and especially scientific and religious circles throughout the world. The greatest revelation since God spoke to, well, anyone, mayhem would ensue before things eventually settled down into a new world order.

Potter himself would become Power Resource #1, the prime target of every nation and secret organization on Earth jockeying to emerge as an unprecedented, unchallengeable hyperpower the likes of which the world has never known.

It would not be a good day for atheists.

Jmanghan
what the hell even is going on at all?

Sure if it was all out warfare, but the wizards could also do a shitload of damage if they tried guerilla warfare type of shenanigans. With some planning it wouldn't be hard to put high ranking members of the government under their control.

Polyjuice potion also gives them the option of replacing certain people as well. Or wizards posing as mortal politicians could use magic to win elections.

Open warfare would be stupid.

That is not at all what would happen.

First, there would be widespread skepticism. People would question whether this is real or an elaborate hoax.

IF it was demonstrated to be actual, skeptics would try to understand how it works. They would not be convinced it is "magic," so much as a natural phenomenon that is not yet understood. They would want his powers studied.

The superstitious, who are already predisposed to believe things without evidence, would use this as proof of whatever particular superstition they already ascribe to.

In the end, most everyone stays firmly in the camp they were in to begin with.

What about the giant murder tree on school grounds? Lol.

Wizards really seem to hate their children.

In the end, most everyone stays firmly in the camp they were in to begin with. Well considered. I submit there are enough people/nations on this planet that there's room for both, perhaps in sequential fashion (eg, skepticism --> attempts to understand within the current paradigm ---> revelation/acceptance chaos, with some in abject denial).

I agree with this.

Worst case, you encourage whackjobs, and the government/black corporations kidnaps and dissect wizards, and use whatever is discovered for personal power or profit.

They hide for a reason.
