So I'm looking at unemployment rates for recent college grads by major...

from this article if anyone is interested:

In short, my reaction to seeing my (former) area of study along with some other rigorous STEM majors being put alongside "communications" and "Art History" as highest percentage of unemployed recent grads can be summed up as:

I'm not sure if it's because these fields tend to attract autists with no social skills (hence inability to land job), or because outsourcing has shrunk the domestic job market so much.

And keep in mind, this isn't people who aren't working in their field of study, but rather those who are unable to acquire ANY form of work.

It starts with,
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme to explain in due time
All I know
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
You didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Tryin' to hold on, they didn't even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory
Of a time when I tried so hard

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end, it doesn't even matter

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end, it doesn't even matter

Actually quite surprising to see English Language that high. Journalism jobs are always available. Teaching English abroad is very easy to get in to also.

Same with mathematics. Statistical analysis work is needed in many professional circles.

I'm guessing theology graduates include mostly those who went for specific denominational qualifications to become members of their clergy.

A dying industry that is highly sought after and competitive? Not surprised.

Where do you think the learn to code memes are coming from.

It's more viable if you know the language of the native country you're teaching abroad tho.

Print journalism may be dying. Online certainly isn't. Although political stance may have an affect on employment chances

Nah. I know large numbers of graduates, many who didn't even do English degrees, who have spent a year or two teaching in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Italy, Poland and many other places.

I thought so too, but a girl I know who teaches English in Spain (who can speak Spanish) told me that employers prefer people who don't speak the native language fluently as they're obviously less likely to slip into using the language of where they are. Seems they think that bombarding the students with nothing but English helps them learn it quicker.
