Yeah. I also remember reading an article recently about a climate scientist who said his colleagues would just hide data if any data showed that stuff like planting tree's did not benefit the environment or help climate change.

A lot of Scientists identified as independent then, issues like Climate Change would be deal breakers for Republicans.

I think Party Politics works because usually parties broadly fit or don't fit us and in fact we are unable to change this. I have always voted Labour in the UK as to me, they are the nearest to my own opinions or the best of a bad bunch. I will never vote Tory as their views do not fit me.

Parties offer what you talked about - a cookie cutter grouping that makes it easier to quickly vote for what you think are probably good choices. So I somewhat agree with your point.

Right, at least in the USA the republicans and democrats take up to much air in the room. They are both owned by large corporations so I'd love to see someone invent the new flower of a political party that has influence enough to win elections.
