There will be a massive outbreak of disease this summer in lA.

The unfortunate part is the effects are limited mostly to people who can't afford healthcare. I live here and yeah, Skid Row is pretty bad obviously, but it's easy not to even notice it if you don't visit those areas.

Also, as the article highlights, cleanup is tricky. Homeless or not, these are human beings. Their tents, clothes, bikes and other personal belongings can't just be tossed into the trash while the people get booted elsewhere. They have to hang flyers warning everyone of the incoming cleanup, take inventory of personal belongings and people, and any property left behind is held by the city until their owner comes to claim them. It's not a super fast process, and people want it streamlined.

Additionally, it seems local businesses create a good chunk of the waste, most of it by some estimates, so the problem is multi-pronged.

Again though, everything comes back to economic class. Make a certain amount and you could legit never even see this stuff if you didn't want to. It's typically the worst off who get hurt.

I figure people in California would be so caring they'd willingly allow the homeless to come poop in their homes.

A so called developed country is seriously having issues with the bubonic plague of all things? Completely unacceptable. It's time for the military to step in and take over since the local governments are clearly incompetent in maintaining a satisfactory quality of living.

If you ask me:

- Feds/military needs to take control of the situation

- Homeless population needs to be rounded up and placed in remedial camps. Those young enough will be entered into the military.

- Remedial camps will offer job training and basic sanitary living conditions until they can support themselves. It is not a cushy environment though, so no-one will want to freeload.
