I think the only thing that is debatable is whether the Source was actually the source

The confusion first arose from Final Crisis - Secret Files where it stated the Source can't be halved due to it's nature

soulfire darkseid was nothing impressive dude, he merged with the souls of new gods but he has no feats. Death of New God completely shit on dc and made the source a joke, the story isn't canon either as none of it was adapt into later new god's storyline

However, the 'Source' that appeared in that story may not be the real Source( See above). You can argue it is possible that just Anti-Life Entity pretended to be the Source

The only time I think you could've made an argument for it was shortly after the release of Infinity Frontier #0 where Darkseid murders the Quintessence.

But then we got into the rest of the series and its follow-up in Justice League Incarnate and it was made clear that Darkseid did not have anywhere near as much power (both in terms of quantity and quality) that Thanos with the gems.

Keep in mind that Adam used the gems to kill off the entire Cosmic Host sans the Living Tribunal with a gesture. Darkseid in constrast got into various fist-fights with aliens and gods.

My problem with this argument is that it prioritizes a power level consistency (which I'd argue doesn't exist) over the feats and implications of individual stories.

The Anti-Monitor's power level was clearly not the same in Darkseid War as it had been in Crisis of Infinity Earths, or as it would be in Death Metal.

It's a bit like taking a scan of Guy Gardner getting knocked out by Batman and then another scan of Guy Garnder restoring a planet or holding his own against a supervillain, and then argue that Batman has to be able to do this stuff as well.

And I'm not going to lie. I'd probably buy these arguments as well if I hadn't read these books.
