Liberals:
Somebody throws a piece of paper and misses the trash can.
Liberals: "OMG you're literally worse then Hitler, I don't understand why people like you are still allowed to exist. I hope you die."

Conservatives:
8 thousand people get killed and/or beaten and persecuted.
Conservatives: "Not an issue."
1 woman says men are pigs because rape exists.
Conservatives: "It threatens us! it threatens our way of life! All our values are at stake! We must get together and fight it until our dying breath!"

Liberalism finds its basis around the central principle of a person's individual rights and the formation of the government as a social contract for the protection of those individual rights.

It does encompass a spectrum, constitutional conservatives are a form of liberal because the constitution and declaration of independence are fundamentally charters of liberal values and ideology.

And there are left-wingers who are liberals who would be termed social liberals, who still believe in the primacy of individual freedom and individual rights and capitalism, but simply believe that the government must act as a secondary objective on the side to extend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate. I don't agree with social liberals economically, but I respect them, and they are generally not the ones being criticized when we on the right criticize SJWs.

Conservatives tend to be more economically liberal, genuine social liberals tend to be more socially liberal, and classical liberals and libertarians tend to be the most genuinely liberal along every dimension.

Left-wingers who believe capitalism should not be the primary basis of our economy, or who disagree with freedom of speech, or who believe in the primacy of group rights over individual rights, should not be considered liberals IMO.

Left-wing and liberal are not mutually exclusive and they are not synonymous. There are those on the left and right who ascribe to liberal values, and those on the right and left who ascribe to fundamentally illiberal values.

How am I acting as if it's only conservatives that are cruel when my example of liberals have one wish death upon someone for no reason? You're being selective here. And it's like we're having two different conversations.
I'm trying to understand how my description of liberals (with them wishing death upon someone for no reason) falls under "load of lefty sht" in your book. If anything a lefty would object to this description.

My 2 cents:

Conservatives embrace structure and tradition. Security is in what-was. The extremes become authoritarian about it, becoming mired in a false, romanticized past, especially if they were the ones in power.

Progressives* embrace change and the future, a sharing of power. The extremes become authoritarian about it: no real sharing, but rather replacing old prejudices with new ones (revenge > revolution).

*IMO, more accurate/descriptive than "liberal".

And Conservative tribalism only seems cruel in a vaccume. Did many Jews care one whit about Russians when they exterminated political rivals, who were not Jewish? Of course not. They ignored the atrocities that had nothing to do with them.



Conservatives can absolutely care about nothing or no one, that isn't in their self interest.



While liberals, they get angry and pretend to care. And then ignore atrocities that have nothing to do with them. For example, anger at Islamophobes contrasts with anger at "native informants" who speak of oppression in their home country that is seen to promote islamophobia.



So the right is classic tribalism, while the left views the world through its own political prism of left vs right, which in itself is just as cruel..
