And many of the great generals who fought for the South are considered heroes today by many Americans. Robert E. Lee was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, general in American history. I'm not surprised you'd refer to Confederate traitors as "heroes".

Except the American colonist fought for independence from tyrannical rule, fought taxation without representation. The Confederates fought against America and they're traitors to their own county.
