Someone that worked in Hollywood claimed this in the New York Times (Or one of the big magazines)

"Hollywood used to be a cottage industry, where everyone knew everyone else, and ideas can get green lit if you had passion and not much else. That all changed when big money noticed there was a huge back catelog of old movies to capitalize on, and bought them out lock stock and barrel. Then it became a corporate town. The change happened in 1984."

What if Orwell wasn't writing a pure fiction, but instead sounding the alarm on something he got wind over? Essentially a corporate takeover of America?

Think the idea is crazy?

Corporate America already tried a coup in 1933.

Read it, because it is in no way "theory" or "conspiracy", and involved a lot of big players in industry.

This proves they wanted to take over. Maybe they never gave up the idea, and only changed their strategy.

1984 was largely inspired by the Soviet Union under Stalin and Nazi Germany.

That's the official line, yes.

But just look at the themes of the story. The Television telling you what to think, doublespeak from officials and media, rewriting of history?

Sound familiar? Tearing down statues and erasing from history anything with a racist past now, CNN and Fox telling you what to think, doublespeak from corrupt lawyers working for these parties..?

The book was released in, what, 1948? Orwell totally could have known something was going down against the US from his home in Britain. Hell, Britian may also have been taken, or been backing the actors enacting the coup of America.

Or perhaps 1984 is really a manifesto? Could Orwell have been in the inner circle of conspirators and this book was a great joke for them? eek!

Also the Russian novel 'We' by Yevgeny Zamyatin. A good read for anyone who enjoyed 1984.
