Do I think Goku could ever get to a point where he could casually nullify entire universes/timelines...or even the multiverse itself...with absolutely no discernible effort or power expenditure... just by closing his fist? No, I don't see him ever getting remotely close to that kind of level.

Yes, it's perfectly possible. The writers just have to decide that he can.
