Zimbabwe to pay white farmers $3.5bn in land compensation deal

Intriguing. These are some reparations I can get behind since we aren't talking about people who died centuries ago. Those impacted are still alive.

Yeah, this is a good thing, what happened There was atrocious 20 odd years ago. Mugabe did lose the plot, religion and politics and race is a heady volatile mixture. I have good friends who lost farms, some even ran from the country. Many have returned. Fortunately Mugabe is gone. I suspect he started with good intentions.

If it's Zimbabwe dollars they might be able to buy a loaf of bread of it.

Zimbabwe is the perfect example of dumb ethnic nationalism and it's consequences.

It used to be one of the richest African nations and then they killed or chased out everyone with the knowledge and skills that drove that economic success and handed over the farms to people who had no idea what they were doing.

And South Africa are doing the same thing now.

And South Africa are doing the same thing now. Pretty much. It's the political class in Zimbabwe that ended up owning the farms, same is happening in South Africa.

In South Africa there is a lot more going on than just white farmers having their land illegally seized. They are also being murdered in great numbers while the corrupt, racist government there either plays a hand in it or just ignores it.

Widespread oppression of white people in Sourh Africa is an actual thing, unlike the imagined "widespread oppresion" of black people in America.

Yeah, reparations for those farmers in South Africa would actually be justified unlike the idea of reparations for black people living in America today who have never experienced slavery themselves or had their land wrongly taken away from them with no compensation.
