Thor vs Superman - Battle of Wills

Damborgson
Thor and Superman both have a green lantern ring.

They both start blasting, and try to overwhelm the other.

The purpose of the match is to see who can exert more will power at the opponent, or has the greater will.

Assume they have equal mastery over the ring, who wins?

Diesldude
Idk if anyone is going to challenge Superman in a battle of wills.

Plenty of comic book characters have incredible willpower.

DarkSaint85
Pretty much alll of them, tbh. To put on a costume and fight heroes/villains everyday? Keeping in shape? Bleurgh.

Not to mention continuing this dangerous hobby, despite all the injuries and mental trauma.

Wolverine resisted Phoenix's power via willpower alone, lol.

Cap broke the Infinity Gauntlet before he gave up himself.

And so on.

Superman's willpower is pretty much best if you are not Hal Jordan.

He has outright rejected Parallax infecting him and Parallax could only infect him if he gave permission for it. I don't see Thor having that level of willpower.

Bonus scene, absorbs Parallax using Sinestro's ring when Sinestro himself couldn't do it for hours.

It has been confirmed many times.

Hal is such a moron, it hurts to read any panels with him.

He can't always be wasting his time on KMC, sometimes he needs to sign some autographs and bang some chicks.

superman has greater will, but using a ring requires more then just pure will. you also have to be able to interface with the ring successfully. superman definitely has better chances doing that.

How?

Mephisto is nowhere near Parallax's level.

Damborgson
Thor endures the totality of a point blank God Bomb, which was made to kill all gods in history, and was doing so at once.

He defused it by forcing it all into his body and then manages to steal the necro sword from Gorr in the process:

Superman actually expelled Neron from his body while he was in hell.

When Batman himself got broken after months of torture from Emperor Joker, Superman takes all his pain and memory in himself.

He actually died there. But good show of willpower.

He would of died there, but due to superior willpower he lived a few more panels and then died😀

Superman has outright been stated to have more willpower than green Lanterns. Thor would be lucky to get near him.

8swords
superman doesn't even need to use his ring to win this, he could just say "Gorr is right" and thor would lose his will to fight.

on the other hand, I guess thor could also scream "martha". laughing out loud laughing out loud

DarkSaint85
Doesn't Thor get amped by prayers?

celeyhyga17
Not sure.

Aaron definetely brought back the idea of prayers in the Thor mythos, but it was treated mainly as en extra sensory perception or a sixth sense. One can even call it as a means of communication. No real indication of power amping iirc. Aaron used it quite extensively in his 7 - 8 year run.

Red Skull controlled Thor easier than Scarlet Witch "coco for coccoa puffs" due to her willpower.

And Superman has outright been shown having more willpower than Kyle Rayner and Batman. Twice.

Where is the difficulty controlling her?

Plus, he is using Xavier's brain, thus using the most powerful telepath on Earth. That's a far cry from Nudge whose power is specifically stated to require overcoming willpower.

Its not willpower based. J'onn was unable to scan her mind as well.

She was able to fight his control via her will while Thor wasn't.

J'onn does scan her mind, yet is overwhelmed by the many voices in her head.

Nothing in your scan shows Wanda fighting any control. Do you have another scan?

cdtm
Thor, of course.

If any other character was living Thor's life, they'd have thrown themselves into a black hole long ago.

No.

In Astonishing Thor (Chaos War mini-series), he was amped by a prayer, that he tapped into by giving him the "will" to fight, because Thor is ultimately a protector archetype and that gives him power.

P.S. Thor is by far the most popular God in Marvel, he is prayed to everywhere:
https://i.postimg.cc/BPNsq5H8/RCO012-1489599809.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/pyMf7wCh/RCO013-w-1489599809.jpg

It would be nice if he could tap into prayers more consistently to increase his power. It is a very logical explanation of his ability to consistently overcome his limits and get stronger.

So your post simultaneously said no, then.....yes he was in Chaos War?

Let me clarify: As far as I know, prayers have never amped Thor's power before in his 70 year history.

The only instance that it DID make a difference in a fight is during Chaos War. It did not amp his power, but it did strengthen his resolve. He was suffering from a mental attack from Glory, and the prayer was a spark that reignited his will to fight.

It was an amp similar to when Thor sees a human in danger and intervenes. Similar to Lois Lane screaming at Superman to keep going, or Mary Jane yelling for Spider-Man to help her. There was no external transfer of power, just internal digging deep from my interpretation.

I hope that clarified why my answer was no.
