The push for gun restrictions has mostly been from the left and centre. Now with the vocal left paranoid about a nazi uprising while calling for police abolition, one might decree gun ownership, even regarding AR weapons, a god given right.

BackFire
It seems to be, at the very least, on the backburner right now. I think most on the left have accepted that it's just not in the cards, and there are more immediate things going on right now.

Do you think the civil unrest has something to do with it?

I mean, a leftist watching interpreting the Rittenhouse thing as terrorism will probably also want "their guys" armed.

I think it has more to do with Covid.

I have heard anecdotes about people on the left wanting to purchase guns for their protection lately. But those are just anecdotes, take them with a grain of salt.
