I agree
KingD19
Maybe the success from Furiosa could springboard a proper sequel. Hardy was amazing as Max and the franchise always did good as a franchise, not a standalone.
StiltmanFTW
Miller's been planning that prequel/standalone for a long time, as far as I know...?
Fans of the franchise often like to argue that each film feels like a standalone anyway, lol.
Patient_Leech
Good. Do it...
And yeah, would rather see another straight Mad Max film, but as long as George Miller is on board so am I.

Synopsis
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

If Max Rockatansky isn't in this movie, they better not put Mad Max in the title, is all.
And Fury Road was the best movie of 2015. A total mike drop by George Miller.

Chris Hemsworth may take some getting used to in the role, but this looks at least as trippy and epic as Fury Road. droolio

WTF? The visuals are awful.
One of the best things about Fury Road was the amazing visuals and that's largely because they used practical effects. By contrast, this trailer is packed with shoddy CGI. Just baffling that this film looks so much worse despite the fact that it's coming out nearly a decade after FR.
Patient_Leech
Yeah, I mean, FR used green screen for sure, but it definitely was better integrated.
This looks more like a marvel movie, it's true.
Robtard
The vehicles excite me, Anne Taylor-Joy definitely excites me. It's guzzoline time!

We get more rad car chases and apparently more immortan Joe? I'm ****ing stoked.

Because most of the time they don't. Anyway, this is what is supposed to get us to see their movie and so I will of course judge it based on what they release.
IMO, it's all how it's handled. Effects can look good even if they aren't realistic. These just look bad.

I doubt it'll be dirty ass. It's possible it'll be inferior to Fury Road, though, because that's a huge hill to climb.

Runtime is 2 hours 28 minutes.
https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2024/4/23/furiosa-runtime-is-2-hours-28-minutes
I am okay with this because it's George Miller in the Mad Max universe. Shut up and take my money!
Patient_Leech
It's not that long of a runtime. 8-10 minutes (at least) of it is probably credits, so it's really well under 2 and half hours. It's nowhere near the outrageous 3 hours of The Batman or Avatar The Way of Water, etc.
Robtard
It's only half an hour longer than Fury Road. I'm cool with it.
Patient_Leech
The way I see it: it needs to be as long as George Miller says it needs to be.
Then again, he did give us Beyond Thunderdome... 😒

Yeah, using the bathroom in a theater is the only issue I have. Once a movie approaches 3 hours I think 10 min intermissions should be instituted. But no one does them anymore. You'd think theaters would push for them, because they would probably help sell more concessions.
At home idgaf. I can always pause and finish later.

It definitely doesn't, but it's still got a lot of big screen appeal.
I needed Kaz to translate the heavy Aussie accents for me, haha...
This movie turned the Australia up to 11.

Patient_Leech
Okay, more thoughts on this...
I really enjoyed it, even though it didn't seem nearly as perfect and compelling as Fury Road. I'm hoping it will only improve when I see it more times with subtitles. There's incredible set-pieces and world-building. I laughed a few times at the ridiculousness of Chris Hemsworth riding around in his Gladiator-esque motorcycle chariot. Just great.
The things I hope improve on repeat viewings are things like a sequence with another war rig that I'm not sure we even needed. The movie didn't need to try to be Fury Road, because it's it's own thing and that's fine. That sequence felt a bit forced and not nearly as compelling as FR.
But it starts really well and ends really well and Chris Hemsworth delivers a stellar performance. He shows he's not just a muscle macho man, but also a great actor chewing up the scenery.
Can't wait to get the 4k disc for this and watch more. Incredible cinematography and visual splendor.

7/10?
Estacado
This was pretty good but nowhere near Fury Road...
The first half dragged out way too much the other half felt kinda rushed..
The action is pretty lacking but it has some nice connections to the previous movie...
Its a 7/10 for me.
While you could easily rewatch Fury Road multiple times cause of the fun action this one tries to focus more on the story but it is simply not that compelling...
Patient_Leech

Yeah, FR is definitely 10/10 even on recent re-watches. Just a master-fu#king-piece.
So yeah, 7 or 7.5/10. It lacks focus in the middle act.
Might change some on re-watches, though.
Robtard
I enjoyed this, but I am also an admitted Mad Max fanboy.
Not as good as FF and it had a whole lot of fat that could be trimmed and the film would either be the same, though more likely improve. Found myself shifting in my seat several times, I do that when a scene(s) drags without real focus.
edit: Hoping Miller's next film is about Max and his car is treated almost like a member of the cast. What made the first two original films so great for me.

Patient_Leech
Yeah, this is performing poorly, sadly.
It's not nearly as good as FR, sure, but it deserves better than this.
George Miller did have another Max FR prequel in mind, but if this bombs as hard as it's expected to, we might not see it. Damn.

This movie crashing at the box office just leads me to believe that what I said initially years ago was true - Miller should have left Furiosa alone, we saw her story, and given us another Mad Max centric film instead.

That occurred to me, but I'm not sure it matters much to me. Whether it's Max or whoever. I just like George Miller's imagination in his wild world.
Do you think it's too woke with a female protagonist? Just imagine if it was a BLACK lesbian trans female!!!
That would be super woke. Woke OVERDOSE!
I think the writing had something to do with it. It's a bit more subtle for pop appeal. And it probably didn't help that Chris Hemsworth is practically unrecognizable.

I've not heard the "woke" mouthbreathers cry over this one, doesn't mean it's not happening as they cry over most things.
But in truth, this is not a film for the masses, not that Fury Road was either, but this one even less so. It's way too bloated and long for what this is. Miller should have chopped 30-45 mins and cleaned up the writing, too many scene where you just kinda didn't care.
Hopefully this taking a massive smelly dump doesn't dry up the funding for the next Mad Max film.
Patient_Leech
The closest thing I've seen to something that could potentially cause the anti-woke mouthbreathers to foam at the mouth is Anya Taylor Joy saying she doesn't like female characters to act sad and passive when wronged. She wants her characters to get angry and do something.
Heaven's to Betsy... THAT'S WOKE!!

Agree. 100%.
I think Miller and Anya said something about the long War Rig scene that they spent like 78 days shooting for a 15 min sequence was just supposed to show how resourceful Furiosa is (something like that). But it really didn't feel like it contributed enough to the movie other than "Memba Fury Road?"
But I'm still curious to see how the film plays on repeat viewings.

This war rig scene in this should have surpassed what we saw in Fury Road, it didn't, was good, but not better.
This has made 69million, not even half its budget. The studio has put a halt on Miller's next MM film, "The Wasteland".
