Canadas' national debt stands at almost a trillion dollars.

https://www.debtclock.ca/

About $26,000 per person.

Taxes are high.

And the Government has a spending problem.

It's time to defund the Government. How does changing the distribution that police get here in the U.S. related to defunding the Canadian government?

wxyz
What are you talking about?

Unless there is a Canadian movement I'm not aware of.

wxyz
Defund the police is worldwide.

Defund the police is worldwide. Fair enough but then why does it matter in this instance at all?

Are saying the police shouldn't be defunded? Or just defund the entire government?

Also context is important to what you're saying.

You're saying the debt to person ratio in Canada is too high but here in America it's a much higher number then that.

Also traditionally removing taxes from the government actually sees a spike the debt rate. We saw this with Trump and GOPs' last massive tax cut.

wxyz
What I meant from the title, is that people are calling to defund the police and I'm arguing that we should defund the Government.

Newjack has trouble connecting dots.

Artol
Some aspects of the government should definitely be defunded.

Police, military and prisons are the first ones that come to my mind. Surveillance agencies as well.

wxyz
That sounds like a good idea.

I'd like to defund the useless Government jobs that exist.

Anecdote: I went for dinner with a co-worker a few years ago and his wife (who works for the Government) with some others and she was telling us how little work she and her co-workers do.

And she got compensated very well.

NotSurtur
Did you see minneapolis city council members backtracking and saying they never wanted to defund the police despite over the summer appearing on a stage with a big sign that said "defund the police"?

Lol

I think the police have too much power, we should reform them at least.

Maybe not outright defund them.

I think better training which will cost money is a good idea.

And we need to cut public servant compensation.

It's criminal how much some of them are making, all on our dimes.

TotesNotSurt
They need to be given more money for better training.

And stop hiring fat cops too.

TotesNotSurt
Around here some dude escaped from the cops cuz they were at a mcdonalds drive thru and he asked them to roll his window down so he could spit and then he escaped.

While cuffed. With his legs shackled.

Had to be some fatties that couldn't catch him.

TotesNotSurt
One of these days a crime will be taking place and someone will go "the SWAT team is on the way" and people will feel relieved until a van of Social Workers And Teachers pulls up.

wxyz
That's a good point TotesNotSurt.

People have to be realistic here.

We need the police.

TotesNotSurt
I was joking but yeah one day there will be an instance where some social worker or something gets killed and then I'm sure the cops will be blamed for that too.

wxyz
Let's take all the money we save from defunding the Government, and give it back to taxpayers.

Robtard
While I'm all for paying less taxes on a realistic level, taking away the money from the government won't really fix the problems, you'll just end up with more problems you'll have to complain about. You need to first fix the problem of our tax dollars being misused. Then you see how much money the government actually needs to run, both state and Federal, then you adjust taxes accordingly.

This will never happen though.

wxyz
I think people would not have a problem with taxes if they were being used properly as you eluded too.

Robtard
Some would as there's always going to be the "taxes are thievery!" types, while they happily take advantage of the services said taxes pay for. But the majority of people probably would not.

wxyz
What's a realistic solution iyo?

Robtard
I don't have one, it would require that we systematically vote in people who are not corruptible and with enough money, most anyone is.

Best we can hope for is the people are only marginal thieves.

wxyz
Man that is depressing.

I have hope in the form of Andrew Yang who I believe threw his hat in recently for mayor of NY.

wxyz
What's his plan that you like?

Trocity
Here in Canada our police ride horses instead of drive cars and they wear red jackets instead of bulletproof vests.

I don't think they need defunding.

Yeah, I do think that the overfunding and mismanagement of police is a much more American phenomenon.

It's time to defund the Government.

Based on this information, I pay about 20% in income taxes and then 13% on items that are HST eligible.

That's bs.

It's too much.

I work for my money, let me keep it.
