1. Who do you think should win this fight?

2. Who do you think will win the fight in the movie? Do you think there will be a clear winner, or a standstill?

stan5677
1. Kong
2. No clear winner. Legendary can't kill off Godzilla and Kong is to sympathetic of a character to kill off.

carthage
Zilla per feats should absolutely stomp him

ShadowFyre
1. Godzilla
2. Godzilla-there is a reason Godzilla never hit Kong even once in the trailer and Kong landed 4 massive hits.

xPRIMEx

stan5677
Kong has been fighting mecha godzilla the whole time.

ShadowFyre
thats one theory. I dont think that is mecha g tho. How and why would they put skin on it

They put Ghidorahs brain in mecha g parts. So I think Godzilla is sensing Ghidorah but cant find him, thats why he is specific attacking APEX cybernetkc sites around the world. Trying to stop Ghidorah.

But that still doesn't tell me why he attacked the fleet carrying Kong besides an ancient war between the species

Khazra Reborn

KingD19
Maybe Godzilla smelled the Skullcrawlers on Kong and he hates them too? But then he realized that Kong wasn't one. Whatever happened we know Godzilla or one of his race has been close enough to Skull Island for Kong's worshippers to get their hands on a back plate.

All we know for certain is that Kong is indeed Apex class as he completely ignored Ghidorah's call to arms and the only other one who did was Godzilla.

Quincy
Damn do I need to go watch Skull island and that second Godzilla movie? The lore in this shit sounds dope

ShadowFyre
so, this isn't official but sounds like Kongs kind alwas an invasive species back in the day, they were becoming intelligent and were beginning to make their own civilization and then there was a "war" between either titans or humans and titans.

Yes, this lore is really good. I have seen every Godzilla and Kong movie made, almost all of the comics and this is more interesting to me then any of the other backstories.

Just hoping the script is decent and we get more of the fights that they promised.

xPRIMEx

ShadowFyre
there will be two tie in comics one for Goji, one for Kong.

Not sure what Godzillas is about I think it explains Ghidorah though.

And I know Kong fights Camsotz (bat monster) in his.

KingD19
Skull Island showed that you can have the plot focus at least partially on the human element and not have it take away from the monsters.

BruceSkywalker
it is better to ask the screenwriter who wrote it

1. The difference in stats is so wide that Kong being an alpha or whatever/posing any threat to Godzilla is already immersion breaking. Kong's species was killed by skull crawlers. The alpha skull crawler could be killed with a stick, a boat propeller, and a chain. Skull crawlers are mooks.

Kong was hurt by human bullets, not even heavy ordinance or something, bullets, and napalm. His size is also bizarre. Kong putting his handprint on one of his ancestor's handprint in the trailer demonstrates he is not substantially larger than other adults of his species, as well. But we already know they weren't the size of Godzilla. So we're already at a point where the upcoming movie makes the size and power of Kong's species inconsistent with established lore. Godzilla's fights with Ghidorah were an entire order of magnitude above anything we're likely to see in the upcoming movie imho.

So, 1. Godzilla should win.

2. Kong will win in the movie. Legendary's Goji license is only good for one more movie, makes sense for them to favour the monster they can keep using no matter what happens.

Robtard
They're going to have some explanation as to why Kong is considerably larger and tougher than the other adults of his species. It may not be a good one, but it'll be there.

Surtur
what if kong takes a huge dump and tricks godzilla into using atomic breath in order to light the huge turd ablaze and then kong hurls it like he's antifa hurling a molotov cocktail at a cop just doing his job

would be awesome

Robtard
Cops can be female too, surt.

Surtur
yeah and that male cop can think he's female too

Imagine not being able to put the politics down for even one thread. erm

Surtur
I don't have to imagine it, I've seen lefties here do it constantly, but have never seen you open your mouth over it.

Cuz I'm nice: I will allow you to pretend you never saw it and that is why you aren't consistent.

It'll be something like "Monarch discovered after Kong's final fight with the Queen SkullCrawler that the source of the massive growth of Kong's race was hidden deep in the center of SKull Island, and got unearthed after that explosion, so Kong got dosed with much more concentrated batches of the stuff than his families muted exposure while he was "young" and it accelerated his growth way past the norm."

Especially with the possible reason Kong is chained up is because Monarch retrieved him from Skull Island after it blew up or sank.

Surtur
Didn't Skull island confirm radiation or something was making him continue to increase in size?

It's going to be something like extra radiation, a titan alpha thing where one has to grow to match the other, or similar. Not great, but we knew it was coming since Skull Island that Kong would have to grow a whole lot before he's even a threat to Godzilla.

He can't.

KingD19

Possibly. I don't remember all the finer points of it and haven't watched it in quite some time.

Surtur
I will accept:

1-radiation
2-local tribes used black magic to increase his powers so he was a more powerful protector

Surtur
Or I guess if they reveal he is from krypton...

I hope they just go with the tried and true trope of "radiation" instead of some unknown elixir. as it's already established that radiation is good for titans.

KingD19
So we all agreed? Kong's been drinking Nuke smoothies for the past 40+ years and had a growth spurt?

'Something, something radiation' is the most logical reason as it's already established in the lore.

How they plan to justify a species wiped out by mooks as a threat to Godzilla's kind is likely to be some sort of gargantuan asspull.

Maybe Kong wasn't the first one to figure out that Zilla's shed back plates as they grew or fought and they worked to block their beams and could presumably cut their flesh? (or whatever reason it is he has that axe)

Yeah, but Rob...this is hollywood. How often do they do the logical thing?

Poe Dameron: It's Palpatine!!! Somehow, he's back!!! -immediately moves on like that isn't the biggest news to hit the galaxy since he got killed the first time-

Star Wars: -doesn't explain how at all-

Also Star Wars: Yeah...this feels right.

Surtur
i feel like if they want to somehow work magnetism into the equation that would be okay

"radiation plus earths magnetic field is making his ape muscles expand at an alarming rate"

I sill think Palpatine was added mid-way and that wasn't the original plan, why it all came together like one big messy turd.

And it was explained, with "Something, something, the dark side of the Force" stick out tongue

That's pretty much exactly what happened. The original plot was called "Dual of the Fates" and went in an entirely different direction. They even had a mostly finished or fully finished script that you can still read online. Then they decided Rey wasn't special enough already and decided to make the entire Star Wars universe literally revolve around her butthole.

Something like this, radiation sandwiches, stuff along this line I'm cool with. I just hope we get something at least close and not wildly, stupidly off the mark like the Islanders faith in Kong made him grow.

(or whatever reason it is he has that axe) Kong's species were still toddlers, statwise, it just doesn't add up. It'd be like giving a bunch of toddlers kitchen knives and asking them to fight grown adults. Kong also turns Godzilla all the way around with a punch in the trailer, which makes no sense with respect to the Ghidorah fights from KotM, either. I'm not expected to believe Kong is stronger than Ghidorah?

The trailer is already poking holes in the best rationalizations available. It's like they've gone out of their way to make it impossible for this to make sense. If they'd not invented a new Kong/Goji war it would help, then they could just say Kong is the most specialest of his species to ever exist, leave out the handprint scene so at least people who didn't read the comics would be able to believe Kong's size wasn't hilariously inconsistent and call it a day. Radiation did it!

As is, each of these points sticks holes in the whole mess, and I guess I'm waiting for the movie to come out to find out the fully, horrifying truth of how badly this aspect of the movie is going to be handled.

I get what you're saying. But we're trying here, man. This is the one chance to not f*ck it up, and we're just complaining on the internet, hoping our complaints will actually be stolen and used as the actual, sensible reason(as sensible as it can get) and not just something completely hot garbage.

I get it, my consistency-autism just isn't letting me have as much fun as I'd like. The writers actively undercutting all of the best excuses available is troubling.

earths magnetism conflicted with radiation plus his zodiac sign plus kong was born on a monday

all this explains it

Godzilla SHOULD win, and quite easily to frank.

I think they'll make Kong win though, or at least get the advantage more often than not.

ShadowFyre
After seeing the Japanese trailer and the difference between what happens when they both land a punch and its pretty one sidd. Kong aint winnin

Adam Grimes
Godzilla should be able to chomp Kong's head off and spit it at skull island, sinking it.

I'm surprised you'd call Godzilla the winner, given how Kong is wearing Legendary's version of Stormbreaker LMAO!

:P

Josh_Alexander
Kong. Although I'm teaming for the big G, Legendary has made it clear that one of them will die.

Given that Godzilla has been pictured as the villain of the movie, unless there's some hidden 3rd titan villain, Godzilla should likely die.

It really supports the belief that neither will outright win. Kong will do well for a bit, Godzilla will do well for a bit and then the real villain(s) is revealed.

"There's something provoking him that we're not seeing yet" , meaning Godzilla really didn't turn into a heel.

Marvel comics did a stealth version of this:

It was a one sided stomp in favor of the Kong clone. Ironically, the kid piloting the giant robot Red Ronin killed Kong in his stead, when he refused to even draw his sword on Godzilla when attacked and cared for him like a pet dog.

I havent read close to all of them but surprised I've never even seen or heard of that one. Readcomicsonline.to has a pretty good selection. Gonna see if they have the Marvel ones

Meltdown for Quan

cdtm
The really insulting part was Godzilla's attitude at the end. Just calmly charged up the axe and lets him have Mechagodzilla while he supervises, then turns his back and swims off into the sunset. Like he knows he's the alphas alpha and doesn't have to prove it.

Like a boss.

I mean...right in the opening scene where they're showing the monsters info, one of Kong's primary weaknesses is "flammable attacks" and we see him get set on fire by a burp so yeah, his chances weren't high.

I expected some bull shit to make it even at least. The underdog almost always wins these fights.

Funny enough this very unrealistic story, is realistic when it comes to fights. Godzilla has fought 2 MUTO's, King Ghidorah, and who knows what else in the eons he's been alive.

Kong's been alive for like 75 years and has only ever fought Skulllcrawler's and that big squid. This is a whole new world for him and he went from fighting a really big training dummy to fighting the biggest baddest Alpha Hollow Earth has ever produced. His lack of experience meant he was never going to win. Imagine being undefeated at Bantamweight, then you shoot up to Heavyweight with no actual training, you just get bigger and sit around. Or that you're a guy who gets a bat and you're fighting the world champion in UFC or something. You've got a much better chance, but you're still fighting the best in the world. The weapon isn't a be all, end all.

CosmicComet
The fact that they had to pay money to use godzilla (seeing as he is a licensed character) should have been more than enough hint to know Godzilla would win.

Kong is partially in the public domain.

xPRIMEx
Godzilla wins, as he should

carver9
I know one thing, Godzilla durability is freaking insane. It's extremely hard to knock him down or out.

xPRIMEx
Yeah nothing Kong did really hurt him. He even took a major beating from mecha g and seemed completely fine afterwards lol

ScreamPaste
I wouldn't say completely fine, but him staring Kong down despite having just intentionally recharged Kong's axe was pretty godamn manly.

that beam feat is beyond ridiculous. The action part of the Movie was good. Best cgi I have ever seen I think. Forwarded thru ppl on hbo tho lol. Gonna save that silliness for when I check it out in imax

Pretty much the exact opposite situation from 1962. 😆

Kong was a 30 year old cash cow at that point, while Godzilla had a spartan 7 year history.

Yeah the beam feat was very impressive. Crazy how much his atomic breath has powered up since 2014. GvK Godzilla might have the most powerful atomic breath of all Godzillas now.
