He does have the haymaker.

Only if he get a lucky Haymarket in, but going with IM, armor gives him too much versatility.

Iron Man has a shitload of ranged options and good speed/maneuverability.

Unfortunately a bad match up for Ben. I mean, even if they were in an adamantium cage environment or something silly like that Iron Man should be able to do sonic, gas or using lights to blind Ben and turn it into an advantageous MU.

He could also, you know, just punch him in the face.

People forget about that all the time, but Stark's armor tend to have some pretty awesome strength feats.

Such as knocking the Hulk out or breaking through Cardiac's adamantium-vibranium dome.

Tony needs to fight a lot smarter to beat Thing and also the powerset of Absorbing Man gets around trickery more easily so some stuff might not have been an option.

Also I don't think Tony would beat Thing in hand to hand despite them having comparable showings with similar opponents. Simply put Thing is much better at ditching and taking punishment.
