Margaret Thatcher embodies feminist ideals

A woman who achieved real power, on her own terms, and stood firm even if the entire world called her a monster.

You could hate the woman for her politics, but at least recognize she is a woman in a man's world who bowed to nobody.

There are a lot of female leaders in politics. Theresa May is another example. What is your point?

She achieved power on 1979. Feminism in the US was only about a decade or two old at that point (No idea about UK equivilents).

And my point is that:

1. She was a trailblazer. The women you mention come much later.

2. You don't like her. A lot of people didn't like her. And she wouldn't bend.

And isn't that really the whole point of feminism? That a woman doesn't need to impress you or anybody else, and can become what they want to become. You don't like it, they'll just walk around you, or on top of you if need be.

I think that's an admirable thing, personally.

She was cool.

Even if I didn't already like her before coming to this site, I would after learning how all the leftists here disliked her.

That's a good rule of thumb to follow: if leftists/socialists don't like someone, it probably means he or she is actually a good person. wink

If they do like someone a lot, it probably actually means that person is NOT actually a good person. wink

Obviously there would be some rare exceptions to this rule though.

That's kind of facetious.

I could post Obama or really any world leader with a monster. That's simply a reality of politics, and does not mean condoning a thing.

But you actually play into my point with your attempt to argue against her character.

Which was never my point to begin with. I never called her a good leader, or a good person.

A woman who got elected to one of the most powerful positions on the planet.

Don't confuse looking at what she symbolizes with romanticizing the person. All I'm saying is feminism argues that women, as a group, should not need anyone's permission to live or achieve.

And she certainly lived as she wanted to, and achieved greatness, in the face of mass disapproval.

That is the feminist ideal.

She was a good leader though.

Keep in mind though, any leader jaden actually would give his seal of approval for would be one that probably supports mass infantacide so.... yeah, I don't take his " she committed genocide!!" arguments seriously anymore than I take the arguments seriously from people in general who support abortion/baby murder but then try to lecture us about "if we can save just one life with gun control it is worth it!" or "if we can save just one life by forcing vaccines on people then it'
s worth it!!" bullshit.

That'll be why she allowed him to flee to London after he was ousted from power and sent him gifts after he was arrested for his crimes

And I'm sure the fact this dictator broke a socialist party didn't make him a target of unfair criticism.

Just like the USSR under communism didn't commit atrocity that was brushed under the rug by the left.

I've seen for myself how unfair the lefts been to Trump. He didn't get people killed under Corona, even if they say he did. He didn't rip children from families at borders, even if they say he did. He didn't initiate a coup, even if they say he did.

Single mindedly demonizing political opposition creates more political opposition, as most people tend to question the even handedness of those making relentless attacks..

jaden_2.0
By "broke a socialist party" you mean instigated a military coup (supported by the US as part of Operation Condor), overthrew a democratically elected government, bestowed dictator powers upon himself then had thousands of his own citizens "disappeared".

Can't say I remember Stalin getting put up at the Wentworth Club and being sent fancy gifts by Clement Atlee. Maybe I'm misremembering though.

I see your point, tbh.

That doesn't mean she wasn't a legitimate monster of a politician, though. Her legacy is still being felt in Northern Ireland, and what she did in the North of England and Scotland didn't win her any favours either.

She's not disliked for the little things.

Take a good long look at the kind of people who are very vocal about their support for whatever scumbag is either in office or running for office, a house slave would be an upgrade for them.

The left licks Biden's behind no matter what. Trump was criticized by his own party in ways that simply do not happen on the left.

It's funny that the same people who praised Trump for trying to bring back coal and steel jobs to America are the same ones praising Thatcher whose legacy was deliberately destroying coal, steel and other heavy industries in the UK.

Funny that those same people who rail against the power of the banking industry applaud a woman who deregulated the banks and allowed their share of the economy to increase from less than 2% to more than 20% giving them an iron grip on the nation's finances and allowing them to engage cowboy practices that have resulted in some of the worst economic crashes in history.

But it's not about reality that makes these people like her. It's because she's a "conservative". Shallow identity politics is as far as they dare to go because being forced to examine their wildly conflicting opinions would make them see how dumb they really are.

Had to laugh while reading this title.

Feminism = female equality.

Thatcher did nothing to advance female equality, she got in power and pulled the ladder up behind her. She only ever appointed one woman into her cabinet and it's well documented that she had nothing but derision for women's lib movement and her attitudes towards women were misogynistic.

Yes her existence as the first female prime minister served as a positive example to women whether she wanted it or not. But saying she 'embodies feminist ideals' is akin to saying that Priti Patel 'embodies anti-racist ideals.' That is to say, total rubbish.
