Will comic sales ever recover?

Lately american comics like from Marvel and DC comics for example have been selling poorly. Manga has been selling well and has been getting all the attention.

Could a recovery possibly happen in the future or will it get worse overtime?.

Hi Broly. Nice to see you, to see you, nice.

I think it'll get worse before it gets better.

You can blame leftist wokeism BS on declining sales.

StyleTime
In 2021, comic sales reached one of the highest points they've been in 25 years.

Comics are doing fine.

BackFire
Are we talking physical sales? Because if so one thing to consider is both DC and Marvel have a digital subscription service where you can read almost their entire back catalogue and new-ish comics for a monthly price. That may also be eating into their physical sales.

Also it seems like comic stores are struggling right now. I don't even know if there is a dedicated comic store in my area anymore, we used to have several but they've all closed over the last 5 or so years. One that had been in the area for like 30 years and was pretty well known moved to minnesota or something.

Yeah, as if "gay Superman" is the only woke bs going on in comics. roll eyes (sarcastic)

One has to also factor in the shortage of paper these days due to the pandemic. Paper has been relatively limited for a lot of things, not just comic books.

And this is coming from a guy who owns over 5,000 comic books.

DC is desperate to tap the MCU juggernaut and has been for some time.

And it NEVER works. The New 52 was a failure because it catered to rich trust fund babies putting Jimmy Olson in a penthouse with a thousand dollar tv whining about how he needs respects despite his vast fortune, and Superman himself whined about punching down.

DC execs are literally a "suicide squad" just one failure away from hanging themselves.

Serves them right, they abandoned their real fans.

DC cancelled Vertigo just so John Constantine could be incorporated in the DC Universe and be in the same titles as Batman and the Justice League where he doesn't f*cking belong.

The bisexual son of Superman publicity stunt is just like Batman's penis in "Batman Damned". They're looking for sales.

And I really believe it's an act of desperation.

I asked a question on Quora about marketing, very general question. I never brought up specific audiences. A marketing guy told me something revealing:

They are really good at selling to white people. But they don't have a clue how to sell to anyone else.

That tells me everything we're seeing is experiments in a effort to get that "non white" money.

Also remember an executive outright called Shang Chi an "experiment". He used that word.

I've said this before... it is not the pandemic that is causing all the problems. It's the way overblown reaction to it that is.

It's a simple case of the cure being worse than the illness. It's only a natural reaction to what happens when you let leftists or "liberals" run things.

And when they got rid of Superman's classic slogan "Truth, justice and the American Way" in favor of "Truth, justice, and a better tomorrow" was that just a publicity stunt too?

No, they did it because they've gone woke. This is further demonstrated by the fact that they are now having Superman fight against "man made" climate change and the deportation of refugees.

Only the woke crowd thinks that there is something inherently wrong with America. "A better tomorrow" to woke lefties is socialism/communism, implementing tyrannical policies to supposedly fight "man made" climate change and shitting all over America.

Iow, wokeism is communist propaganda designed to help bring about downfall of America. China is getting basically everything they want. Their plans are coming to fruition and they now have a weak American president "leading" their greatest competing power...

Oh, and China just tested a new hypersonic low orbit missile that circled the world (we don't even have technology like this) which they could easily slap a nuclear warhead on and they've been running lots of air sorties over Tawaiin recently too.

That, in addition to their increasingly belligerant rhetoric towards Taiiwan, the US, and the world shows that they know Biden is extremely weak and a hopelessly ineffective "leader".

God help us all because I fear we are closer to war with China than ever before now. No way would China be doing all these things if Trump were still our C-in-C.

I dunno man, have you watched the movie Network?

I have a feeling that was half parody, and half real life events in Hollywood. Essentially it was about how activists were considered money makers and given stakes in the movie industry, and how majority shareholders are completely out of their minds.

Which probably isn't far from the truth. Anyone can become a majority shareholder if they have enough money, and majority shareholders can impose whatever crazy vision they want.

The material for Network must have come from somewhere. Is it more likely they wove it out of whole cloth, or that some writer saw for himself the dysfunction of media production, made a script out of it, and got it green lit for whatever reason?

The comic book shop near me, stopped selling comics and now focuses on games and funkpops.

I used to go in there and pick stuff up.

Now the closest comic book shop is 45 minutes away by bus.

But I've moved onto digital and I really don't miss having to pay for shipping, waiting for the order to arrive, and storing the books.

Darth Thor
There's hardly a need for any walk in shops anymore, let alone comic book shops.

Jeff Bezos owns us all.

I would never trade my comic book collection and graphic novels for digital versions.

Buying digital may be faster and more convenient but I still prefer to hold the actual comic in my hand.

Comic books will remain a thing, once a generation shows up who only read digitally and they find out that comic books were a thing, they'll flock to start buying them like the hipsters they are. Like vinyl, comic books have an intrinsic, work of art quality about them, I doubt that'll disappear.

Yeah I thought this would help sales. Mainstream audiences know of this run now. Before this they didnt even know who Jon Kent was.

Its like when Captain America said Hail Hydra.

So much for go woke go broke.

They're all speculators.

People who say the speculator bubble burst in 1993 haven't been following modern trends. The Walking Dead comic is ABSURDLY overvalued, mainly because speculators keep selling them to other speculators in an endless cycle upward.
