The quantum stuff in the last movie was the coolest part, so yeah, I'll probably watch this at some point. However I will do my best to avoid giving Disney money..

They still need to do a movie when they accidentally scale up an army of tardigrades so they become a planetary threat. Like hundreds of practically indestructible kaiju sized tardigrades that destroy cities.

I genuinely thought some parts of the trailer looked like Spy Kids 3D

We know he's the big bad coming because they have an Avengers movie named for Kang coming in less than three years. That's time enough to sell him. I remember when people got cynical about Thanos and thought it's taking too long for his to arrive and he won't live up to the hype, but he did and exceeded our expectations.
In the comics, I'm not a big fan of someone who's mastered time travel, because I just ask myself 'why aren't they the master of everything anywhere? Why would they bother fighting at all?' It's like someone with super speed so extreme they can break the time barrier. But we have seen our time travel works in the MCU and it is messy and complicated, so I'm hoping to see Kang not just be all powerful.

Not necessarily. Loki had a build up movie in Thor 1 and an Avengers movie but wasn't the "big bad" and obviously Ultron wasn't the big bad either.

Yeah and Avengers Secret Wars is out the next year (or was it later the same year).

The thing i don't get with Kang is when he gets defeated. Why doesn't he just go somewhere prepares for that moment for when he gets defeated and then return back to that one point and win.

One could argue it's because Kang doesn't really care about winning:

Chaplin would be proud.
I decided to make a small contribution to Kang's mythos by condensing and discussing one of his most defining features as a character that can be overlooked when you first encounter him: Kang is an actor.
It could be argued that this intention appeared and faded in certain points of his history, and that several writers deemed such features inconsecuential and tried different approachs which never quite suceeded. They cannot be blamed, Kang's histrionism is hard to see given the media in which characterization tends to be weak and writers aren't invested enough to look at the characters closely.
So we have this misunderstood character that has never managed to be very popular since every bit of its complexity is hidden, his stories always involve an absurd time-puzzle and at first sight acts as the most stereotypical villain. To help him a little I'm going to explain what the character does, why it works and what's so cool about him.
First of all, no matter which version of Kang you pick, he's essentially this dude:
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/thisdudejpg.jpg
He wears a hat when he goes to the ruins, it may seem inconsecuential but it actually isn't.
In his first appearance he's pretending to be a pharaoh, in the second one he changed costumes and has become a time-conqueror. You could even think he's some sort of clown by the way he dresses and the color he uses; there is certainly some victorian age thing going on in those futurist robes.
The second great theater break we get is when Kang falls in love with Ravonna, the princess of a kingdom he must conquer. She sacrifices her life to save him, he lives to suffer his own failure. A Conqueror is one of those characters played in the big tragedies, think Othello going to war, or Julius Cesar. He used to play a pharaoh and now he's a conqueror? How can it be more obvious? Nathaniel Richards is an actor, Kang is his character; even his storylines are filled with theatrics.
Next arc: He plays against the Grandmaster, he wants power over life and death and if he loses his world dies; this is to save her loved Ravonna.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Riskaplanet.jpg
Given the stakes one should think he's serious, that he cares about Ravonna. He doesn't save her.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Powerofdeath.jpg
At this point most readers probably dismissed Kang already as the stereotypical villain who is just evil and cannot do otherwise. This is actually one of the bumpy roads of the characters, Kang is a conqueror, he kills before he loves, its part of his persona. Kang will mourn Ravonna for years to come.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Mournravonna.jpg
Another important point of the character appears: His future as Immortus, his alternate future as the Scarlett Centurion, his past/future as Rama-tut or as Victor Timely. Those are other roles Nathaniel Richards will play and since time is the canvas there is already an ending. Kang's destiny is written, just like a tragedy.
Most of what makes it possible to understand the character is already in play: his future as Immortus, his acting, his love for Ravonna and the Conquering. Other stories will come with inferior caracterization, such as the Cross-time Kangs and Avengers the Crossing (gladly retconned).
We have four stories left which will shed light over Kang's histrionism: Citizen Kang, Terminatrix Objective, Avengers Forever and Kang's Dynasty.
Citizen Kang was the first attempt to make sense of Kang's whole story and motivations, funnily enough, it ends with Kang sacrificing himself to save Terminatrix.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Protectravonna.jpg
Then Terminatrix Objective will come and undo every sense it tried to make, because suddenly Alioth is Kang's prime opponent, suddenly his fall and Citizen Kang was intentional. And this on time will be retconned into oblivion, because Kang's intention are never quite clear.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Thisisbs.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Totallyposing.jpg
If anything these arcs marked again how over-the-top Kang tends to be, how his half-cooked ideas and motivations are worth dying for, how he can have everything he wants, but if he's not into it its not worth a dime.
By the way, its established that Kang doesn't give a sh*t about women:
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/Pimp.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb6/Enteithegreat/Kang%20the%20Conqueror/Kang-Histrionics/pimpagain.jpg
But he still mourned Ravonna for years. By acting and investing himself Kang tries to inject some reality at everything he faces, he conquers because fighting for things make them valuable. Having power would be meaningless unless there is opposition.

Going from the Loki show it seemed to imply that Kang is being set up as the new 'big bad' for the MCU, not just Ant-Man.
At least I hope so, cos there's no public plans for Galactus and who knows how long until they'll do a proper Doom.

Yup. In fact we know that because the next Avengers film is called Kang Dynasty. Although Avengers Secret Wars planned the same year which I assume would involve Doom at least.
But yeah thats what I meant that its time for them to show Kang as the major threat in the MCU. And I dont mind Ant-Man films going bigger now. I mean lets face it the Quantim Realm is what saved the Universe in Endgame so the character doesnt just deal in the corporate villains world (even though that was the correct answer ay to start him off).

If I were a betting man... I'd have money down that "Quaz" is a fakeout and that WJH is actually playing Reed Richards.
Maybe a version of Reed that got trapped in the quantum realm and is now leading forces against Kang.
Fantastic Four movie comes out a couple months ahead of Avengers Kang Dynasty, and given the Kang/Reed connection, it feels like Marvel is burying that lede here... since the Richards are part of that Kang "Dynasty"

Relied heavy on the eye-candy and less so on plot, writing and humor. All three of which were average to mediocre at times. There were a couple cringe scenes.
Jonathan Majors is a decent actor and he did well enough with Kang, but we've seen villains and what drives them like Kang before. He might as well be another Thanos, but maybe without the skewed compassion side. At least the version we saw here, as there's many.
The MCU better step it up with the rest of Phase 5.
Given their entire idea of bad guys this phase seems to just be lots of different Kangs it doesn't exactly bode well.

Can I ask something? In the climax of the movie, Kang gets overwhelmed by an army of ants to stop him from leaving the SUBATOMIC Quantum Realm. My question: Did they shrink down the ants to subatomic size, or did they get transported to a Microscopic Realm that exists above the Quantum Realm? If the answer is neither, how in the PHUCK was Hank able to summon an army of ants to help them with a conflict on the QUANTUM SCALE? At the quantum level (and this is undoubtedly a massive UNDERestimation), one single hair follicle on a single ant's leg would be the size of a quadrillion galactic superclusters. At the quantum scale, you wouldn't even be able to see the ant, you would just see electrons the size of planets and protons and neutrons the size of stars. Ants may be tiny compared to us, but compared to quantum particles they are size of centillions of galaxies. So again I ask, how the PHUCK did Hank manage to summon an army of millimeter-sized ants to the yoctometer-sized Quantum Realm without shrinking THE ENTIRE COLONY OF MILLIONS OF ANTS (which is the ONLY possible he could have brought them to the Quantum Realm, as otherwise, they would literally be too massive to perceive )?
This is just really buggin' me (no pun intended

Thanks infinitely man. Has anyone else noticed that Kang in this film is essentially CLU from Tron Legacy? A dictator is trapped in an alternate dimension, so they turn that dimension into a totalitarian state, build an army, and intend to use that army to break free of their dimensional imprisonment to conquer the real world. The only difference being Kang has conquered seemingly infinite timelines so unlike CLU he can "technically" resurrect himself . Just a thought

Saw it last night. I don't get the mixed reviews and the hate. I had a great time. Is it because people are finding this whole variant/multiversal origin of the Kang dynasty too complicated?
I think Eternals got too much hate too, just because it was trying to be different. There are fans who are hypocrities about this if they are complaining: "Your moves are all becoming the same, don't be anti-auteur, take the freedom to do something fresh!" "That was too different, give us what we want!"

Myth
I had a fun time with this. I viewed it just as an elaborate adventure movie rather than trying to take it too seriously, which probably helped. I thought the one thing that would have pushed it over was if Ant-Man died. Whether Kang just simply killed Ant-Man and won, making it so that this version of Kang is established as a legit threat for the rest of the next 2 phases, so you never know when he'll kill again. Or, if Kang and Ant-Man both died when Ant-Man says "I don't need to win, I just need us both to lose." It would establish that it takes a sacrifice of this level to defeat 1 Kang, so what will it take to defeat an army of Kangs? Ant-Man fully defeating Kang, whether he is alive or dead still, does the opposite and reduces how much of a threat Kang feels.

Saw this. Trippy and silly.
Funny that the Kang actor has become problematic. Marvel gonna have to recast him or something? Probably easy to write some elaborate way to change the actor. The actor doesn't strike me as all that good, anyway.

Still waiting for this movie to be on Disney+
Patient_Leech
It earns a lot of points for imagination and trippiness in my book.
But in typical Marvel fashion it's tonally inconsistent and a bit goofy and clumsy at times.
Galan007
Wow, this was shit.
I guess maybe better than some of the MCU's worst? But still just a piece of crap.
Darth Thor
Was fine. No where close to the MCUs worst.
