Hal Jordan vs Black Canary

Hal stands there and takes a full blast Canary Cry. He wins if he's standing on any of the three.
1. Aura up.
2. Shield up.
3. No ring.
Delta1938
Well a blast blocked it when they were under illusions and fighting each other.

I don't see why a shield wouldn't. Or just the auto-shields(aura) given they've protected from more.

You're right.
They talk past shields all the time yet they block sonic attacks. You'd think if they can talk through it, a sonic scream would pass right through.
Unless they intentionally muffled it out.

It very well could be the Power Ring transfering non harmful levels of sound. It protects them from explosions. I would assume the sound from a planet busting explosion would be more than what Black Canary hits with, but I could be wrong. We actually have on occasion had writers give detailed explanations for what the ring is doing to protect the user that it filters so non harmful sounds get through isn't far fetched.

That does not look like a full powered scream

Wasn't the point. Ctdm seems to think sound attacks should take GLs out just because they can talk through the constructs. Hal's feats I'm reasonably sure are better than hers.
DarkSaint85
Lol is that what cdtm's arguing?
I mean, they block lasers and other light attacks. Does that mean GLs are blind? No. They block heat. Does that mean GLs freeze inside? No.

All are good questions.
They block lasers, yet they can be blinded by a bright flash. It's happened, they have been blinded.

Just to clarify something, different shields have different properties, right?
Tony Stark has force fields, and his take damage to sonic attacks, don't they?
I notice in fiction the "dome" style force fields seem to block a wider range of attacks over the "aura" type shields. Say a Guy Gardner aura taking damage from Lobo, while his dome actually blocks him for a time.

Not what he meant. If it worked the way you're arguing, GL constructs and auras should block out light leaving the GL blind since they've blocked LASERs and other light based blasts.

A GL can make them with specific properties IIRC, but if you're talking normal stuff, no, it would vary on their willpower.
The auras are programed functions of the Power Ring though independent of the user.

Yes, but my point was since they aren't blind, logically there's no real reason they should have blocked the lasers.
Unless an in universe explanation exists? Because if not, how are we to judge the range any given force field is capable of defending against?
Do we just assume it blocks everything, even if it doesn't make sense? Or do we take it on a case by case basis where a force field that never happens to have encountered lasers, are assumed as incapable of doing so, even if it blocked nukes or projectile weapons?

You're going to great lengths with this. You remind me of someone obsessed with Superman f ucking Lois because it should kill her.
DarkSaint85
Lmao. It's a protection field, so it protects them. Simple as.
If they don't need protection from X, then it doesn't. Somehow, this is a completely alien concept to someone who has been reading comics for years.
Next topic: why don't things break when Hulk picks them up? How do random mutations in one's DNA enable you to teleport across the universe, or control the weather? Is there an in-universe explanation for how DNA mutations give you the ability to use magic, or control the EM spectrum?
Delta1938
It's also not just GLs who have this.....
Smurph
And GLs have more of a catch-all explanation for any of these anomalies, right? The rings are programmable and have a sort of intelligence. Their operations can be more nuanced than "block all light"/"let all light in"
A bit harder to reconcile, say, Mags or Sue's shields, unless we accept that their control is so strong and fine as to accomplish the same thing.

Like I said in the image thread, for me this is really about Circuit Breakers shields vs Transtormers.
She is annoyingly overpowered against mechanicals because of her ability to fry circuits and defend against laser attacks, so I mused whether Soundwave or Blaster could have checkmated her with a sonic attack.
Thought it was perfect, then remembered how Banshee did against Magnus's magnetic shield...

Like I've seen narration go into detail about Kyle's Power Ring making oxygen, protecting from radiation, siphoning away sweat, I assume on its own. Unless Kyle was really REALLY GOOD at multitasking.
And if it actually is your birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
DarkSaint85
Oh yeah happy birthday Smurph! Big 3-1.
Sue has also made force fields whilst unconscious, so could be her subconscious helping her out. She's a very good multitasker, though
