Back in the 80's Monica (Photon), A black woman led the Avengers in the comic and nobody cared. What is the problem now with strong female comic characters?

The main issue isn't their character. The main issue is their films and shows are badly written.

But you want to know about issues with their characters.

The biggest problem is they don't have any kind of improvement arc. Look at some of the popular male characters. Tony Stark, Thor, Dr Strange. They all have to overcome flaws in themselves before they can overcome their external threats. Captain Marvel goes to great lengths to show us the opposite. That she's always been a badass girlboss ever since she was young and only once something was done TO her (getting powers from the infinity stone) can she win. They don't grow or change as characters.

However in the comics, Carol Danvers was a Captain before she got her powers too, the difference being in the 70's she was a sort of female second tier version of Captain Marvel as Ms. Marvel.

All the girls are better than the men. Shuri is the smartest, female Loki is a better Loki, Carol is the most powerful hero, Hela is too strong for Thor and Wanda owns everyone. Carol and Wanda making Thanos a joke was bullshit when the rest of the universe was shitting their pants about him.

It's straight up pandering from Disney plain and simple. The fact that the Marvel's is looking to flop is music to my ears.

I felt Blackwidow has no real powers to be a superhero

rudester
It's very hard to answer your question because there has been many leading ladies who have been great superheroes, Captain Marvel being one of them.

Batman isn't a superhero also with that sort of thinking too

as for the topic, I'm not one of those people that get pissy when they see a female character.

I hate any character not straight white male.

Batman was rich and had tech nobody on earth had. He might have not been a super hero but he had the elements that made him more than your average yogi bear

The MCU's female characters are all terrible. Some of them have decent comic counter parts, but the movie characters are all written by rabid feminists who's sole objective is to try and pretend women are stronger than men.

rudester
What chipotle are you smoking. Are you saying females can not be empowered, without subjectifying their gender? To be fare, MCU empowered female superheroes solely by their appearance alone. Look at their costumes vs females superheros from DC. MCU has females covered from head to toe, while DC, still has women in tight provocative outfits.

the characters are fine, the way they are trying to deliver an overstated message about equality or whatever the **** is too heavy handed and out of place.. if you can tell a story with a real world message in it and do it seamlessly and to enrich the story then im all for it but the choppy, lazy way in which they have attempted to show that the upcoming female counterparts are somehow easily better than the males they are replacing is such a dumb way to introduce these females and it will work against their popularity in the long run

Um. Thor came the closest to killing Thanos with a single hit and that was Thanos with a complete Infinity Gantlet..

But please don't let the facts stop your whinging about strong female characters.

It's the truth. Sarah Connor is a strong female character who is well developed. Unlike Disney Marvel females who are awesome simply because they have a snatch.

Hmm, I normally steer clear of threads like these, but in this instance, I'll say, to me, it's not so much that the character portrayed is female, it's more that the character portrayed is poorly implemented. Male characters can suffer from this as well, hence the trope of the Gary Stu/Mary Sue is a thing.

What I am seeing here, is that Carol Danvers/Ms.Marvel is an MCU Pisstake on Superman and Goku, without the context and character growth and nuace. They skipped all of those things in favor of creating an all-powerful character in time for Endgame. They implemented Captain marvel far too late in the MCU's history to make it, in any way, meaningful. She didn't have time to develop her powers, or grow as a person people could come to love. They simply made her powers her entire character, and it doesn't work. The reason why that worked for Superman was because it wasn't about who he could overpower and defeat with his might, but the moral decisions he was faced with while challenging the villains. You may recall he was lampooned a LOT for the number of people killed during his battle with Zod during MOS.
