Shogun airs next Feb. I still have the original James Clavell novel and I loved the original tv mini-series,,,

Love the 80s miniseries, do wonder how its aged though.
This shows a high level of promise, can't wait.

This shows a high level of promise, can't wait. I am going to check the original out again when I get a chance, see if it holds up still.

first 2 episodes were so good,, i cannot wait to watch this over and over

First two were very good, an improvement over the 80s series. Looking forward to more.

Looks good indeed. Didn't read the book or seen the 80's series.

Ep3 was also good.

I love this series.. It is so damn good. I;ve never used words like MASTERPIECE, HOWEVER this series to me is definitely a MSTERPIECE. I love it
Two people that I;ve never heard of Anna Sawai and Cosmo Jarvis were cast well have been good.
Henry has been totally great as always and I've always been a fan of Tobunada Asano.

Four eps in; this show is solid.

Still good.
Still confused why this Blackthorne left the pheasant outside to rot for a week, thinking it would somehow make it taste better.

So did they forget Buntaro?
Jilted husband, took his wife sleeping with the foreigner like a man and died like a man. Best damned part of the book.
cdtm
He's in it, but it doesn't look like a good adaptation:
The bolded part is a lie, he was anything but. Mariko refused to sleep with him for personal reasons, he never forced her, never pressured her. He showed her a tea ceremony as a sign of his devotion, something with deep meaning to her, yet honored her decisions.
It's Mariko who chose to sleep with another man. Buntaro beared that shame, and proudly did his duty in defense of his people, dying a noble death.
It's a shame Hollywood has to turn him into a typical possessive husband just for the drama.

Tried watching, man it's.a bad adaptation. The killing children thing never happens in the book, that's new to the show. And it was put in by Hollywood as a sick joke, everyone knows Tinsle Town are bloodsuckers who literally drink the blood of children in their demonic rituals, this is literally the only reason they'd add that scene.
Hollywood people are sick!

i have enjoyed all the episodes so far and do not except anything to change

I read the books, loved the books, and am trying to give this a chance.
The woke crap is a given, but hoping there's the good to justify it and it isn't overtaken and destroyed as Preacher and Walking Dead was.

It's almost a shame they didn't make it a longer mini-series. Maybe 2-4 more eps beyond the 10 we're getting.

From what I understand, ep10 (airs 4/23/24) is the book final.

Honestly, was kinda glad she went boom. She's been slowly dying since ep 1.

Well looks like I'll have to add this to my list.

Overall the series was great but the finale left me conflicted. It was very anti-climatic.
My biggest issue by far is how they "resolved" the entire plot by having Toranaga revealing his plan and how he will win. It was very unsatisfying and, frankly, feels unfinished. With that said, I did appreciate the reveal that Toranaga is not the honorable man he pretends to be but rather every bit the power hungry villain that the the regents claimed.
Then there is Blackthorn who is presented as the protagonist. And so the viewer expects him to do something, to matter. But nope, he's just a distraction. It may make sense and be "realistic", but it was very unsatisfying.

I thoroughly enjoyed this... excellent cast choices as I've been a fan of Henry Sanada and Tadanobu Asano for years. it was very well written... As for the final episode I feel was very open-ended yet good..
once the NFL Draft is over I will be rewatching this even more
Robtard
***HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD***
The reason why Toranaga's endgame was shown in quick visions and not a huge battle, is because Toranaga won (or will win) without having to go to war.
I personally would have preferred a huge battle scene for the visuals, but the way it was done shows Toranaga's genius and conniving, that he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants.

seems a 2nd and 3rd seasons are in order
