doubt there is an existing thread but if so please merge.
Watching X-Men'97 gives me great hope the live action version will be grand

Giancarlo Esposito has expressed interest in the role of Charles Xavier/Professor X.
I can honestly see it.

Then Denzel could be Magneto.
I wouldn't mind that tbh. Charles and Eric were originally inspired by Martin Luther and Malcolm X.

Originally? Please. Originally, Mags was just a generic villain.
As for what happened many, many years later; Claremont already elaborated on it:

Giancarlo and Denzel being cast will send the fandom menace grifters into overdrive.
As for this film 2026 is going to be the earliest we will get it.

I can honestly see it. It'd actually be really cool to see Esposito break out of the post-Gus typecasting of suave cultured villain he's been in (at least for the things I've seen, he's been in quite a few things I'm not familiar with so maybe he has) so I'd be down.

Meh I prefer the Malcolm and Martin analogy, as it includes Xavier's perspective as well. That's certainly what X-Men First Class was inspired from (the film), which is still one of the best comic book movies ever made IMO.
In any case the Holocaust was just too long ago now, so unless we want them to be 100 years old, harking back the Civil Rights movement would suit Eric better for a new film.

Prefer whatever you want, just don't spread misinformation.

Why was the possibility of a Black man being cast for Superman/Clark a reason for people to scream "Woke!!!!!11! Reeeeee!!!" but a Mulatto Xavier and Black Magneto are apparently not?
Personally, Esposito would be a fantastic Xavier, or Magneto for that natter. If they want to go older again.
StiltmanFTW
I want to see black Kirk and black Spock make out in front of you, then suffocate you with their pillows

Robtard
Now you're just trying to turn me on.
But the question still stands

StiltmanFTW
Superman is one of the first and one of the most popular superheroes.
And his core fanbase consists of Trumptards, who were raging even back when his son, Jon, was revealed to be bisexual. They are quite vocal.
But that doesn't mean we need to welcome all the race swapping and gender swapping all of a sudden. It's lazy and inexcusable.
Robtard
Agreed that the vocal retarded minority, gets the attention.
But if we can accept Giancarlo Esposito as Prof X and Denzel Washington as Magneto, why not his son John David Washington as Superman? Actors are supposed to act as other people, so it's said.
I personalty hope they revamp Magneto's backstory, as him being a Holocaust survivor greatly limits the actor selection if this is going to be set in modern times. That or add to his powerset and make it that he ages slower. A Mark Strong Magneto could be great.

They should go with an entirely old X-men team.
Danny Trejo as Wolverine to start

A bit different, as already discussed there's a good reason for modern day incarnations of Eric and Charles to be associated with the Civil Rights movement. Whereas the potential Superman change just seemed pointless.
Also altering the colour of supporting characters is different to doing the same with our main characters. There's plenty of black/coloured comic book characters out there who we also wouldn't want recast as White.

I'll partially buy your Civil Rights Movement angle, because as I said previously, would be a good idea to update Mag's Holocaust survivor background due to the age limits that puts on the actor casting.
But we both know that if we get a Mulatto Prof and Black Magneto, there will be resounding "Woke!!! Reeee!!!!" to be heard, no matter how sensible the backstory changes are.
Would we call film Magneto a supporting character still? He tends to kind of take the spotlight as he's one of the most interesting characters, McKellen and Fastbender both did it.
jaden_2.0
Aren't mutants and how they are treated by humans just an allegory for minorities and the civil rights movements anyway?
Robtard
According to this interview, seems so: https://www.history.com/news/stan-lee-x-men-civil-rights-inspiration

Not entirely related, but I just remembered how we had Ra's al Ghul who's normally Middle East and Bane who's normally Latino (iirc) be whitewashed in the Nolan films, and hardly saw anyone point it out back when first got said films. lol
We seem to be mostly past the point of stuff like that happening now, at least.

Oh yeah, Foxmen really did have the worst continuity by far, and in hindsight it's funny to see how simple it would've been to fix said continuity.

Nice.
For Deadpool id also ignore the scene where the First Class crew is hiding in the mansion. As seems Deadpool takes place in the current day and that scene was for 3rd wall breaking jokes only.
But tbf the FC lot never age through the decades anyway

Kazenji
The team for this movie should be the original lineup. Save Wolverine until the 2nd movie
