OK, so right now there is all this hype and that's really what I'm posting about.

I have to admit that I have never read one of these books. My only awareness of Mr. Potter is through the two movies thus far released. However those I have spoken two have told me that the books they have read are actually quite dull, boring and badly written.

With Book 5 only a few weeks away there has already been controversy over the discovery of 2 copies of the book in a field, not far from the publishes factory. As of last night these two copies were in the safe of the SUN newspaper, a trashy UK tabloid.

To me this seems like an orchestrated event, though this morning they say that some youths have been arrested in relation to this apparent theft.

Is this a publicity stunt??? And will you be buying Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?

no. I tried to read the first one but i found it to ..kid-y.
And my7 YEARS old cousing was reading at the time. That should say something about who should read it.

Sorry, guys, but the Harry Potter phenomenon will live on. I ADORE the books - they're by no way "kid-y".

I know your entitled to your opinion, but I'm an A level English student, and I often review books - Harry Potter is an excellent series. It's by no means just for kids, many adults enjoy the series, and I think there will always be more people that like it than don't.

heck, sw is a kids movie though, and around this place... there are some 30+ posters too

i bet that most of the adults that read it, phoenix, do it either because it reminds them of their childhood (and enhacements on this idea), or just for the sake of it, or..boredom (ok...this...probably not).
I completly understand why an older person would read it.

When i tried to read it, i was in the middle of 'the silmarillion' and ..well...you know they can't be compared.
And now, when i've finished dune...i'm gonna be more picky about books than ever.
I even immagine the NJO childish...think about how i'd like HP.

That I enjoy them as books. I do not read them just for the sake of it, or because it reminds me of my childhood, or any bullshit reason like that. I read them because I enjoy them on the same level as books like LOTR so do not try and pretend that only children enjoy these books.

It certainly looks a heck of a lot like your point, seeing as you said that your 7-year old cousin reading it should give an idea of who should be reading it, and then listed the exact things I just said.

Harry Potter Sucks!

I like reading the HP books. I only have one of them, and I'll probably just rent the fifth one from the library.

It's not kiddish at all. Ghoulish Dark Lord who kills people and has a mysterious messed up history. A boy who survived while everyone else who fell under the spell he survived were blasted to pieces. A school full of dangerous mysteries. Very good reading in my opinion.

here and there the movie's content gets choppy. for those of you who think hp is lame, then don't read them at all! spare me your venting of hatred.

Harry Potter is a damn good series. I enjoyed the movies, which I saw first, and they inspired me to read the books.

Regardless of how much I like the subject, the writing is simply GREAT.

Now, with that out of the way, I do like Sci-Fi and Fantasy (that is generally the only books I read, save Horror and Nonfiction.), and this series a great one.

The series is meant for Young Adults. Not for Little Kids. Despite this, it is written in such a way to be a good read for anybody interested in Fantasy literature. The characters are fun to love (or hate), the stories keep you reading (When I read the books, it was basically nonstop; except for Goblet of Fire, which was really long and took a few days.), and I can't wait for #5 to come out.

The movies where well done, a LOT better then most book to movies. They kept true to the book very well, taking out only a few things that were not relevent to the plot to save space (it was long anyway.). They kept true even better then LoTR, which missed a number of book moments I'd like to have seen (Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights, for example.)

Most people say they hate Harry Potter and have never even seen the movie or read the book. Oh well, pity for those who do.

Harry is a great book series, but there are lots of other good ones out there - I'm sure different people hane their own preferences. I've never really seen the attraction of Star Wars myself, but maybe we could all just respect what other people like? I know you have strong opinions, but is there any chance you could tone them down until there no longer insulting? It mite make chats have a bit less friction...

Harry Potter And the Order of the Pheonix is a wonderfull book. I was fortunate enough to have a contact... that allowed me to borrow it... and read it a few months ago.
There are many new things, and many things change. But in my opinion the best of the collection so far.

Well, that is certainly not what I expected from Harry Potter. Somewhat inappropriate for the younger mind, perhaps? Oh, and I think "seduce" is a strong word for a children's/young adult's book..

I read the story you read Odin and it wasn't the real book, it was only like a fanfiction. But it was good to read, though. Don't be mad at me for saying that.

I started out like some of the other people my age talking about people who read them. I saide they were for little kids.

I love reading LOTR being one of my favorite series of all time. I was quick to point out how some of the characters in HP resembled others and stuff like that.

Then one my friends said that i should actually try reading the books. At first i was alright i'll read it then tell you there bad, but boy was i wrong. These books are not just for kids. In fact there more for older people. Especially clever ones.

These books have to many threads for most kids to keep up with and i love trying to speculate on what is going to happen in the next book or what that cleverly placed phrase or look was for. I have seen the error of my ways and i am now a true fan. I do have to say the movies are not as good as the books though but that is only because there is no way the could accomodate all of the details of the books.

I read in a news thread that JK said that there were gonna be 7books total, 3 left, and that either a major character dies or one of the trio dies dont remember.

I have read that same version. And i finally found out it is not the final draft because it doesn't match what he author says about the book. J.K.
even published the begginingg part of the first chapter it doesn't match the one i read. I've read plenty of versions on the internet and they just don't match up. she even described parts in the book. I don't think anyone should readthat spoiler untill the book actually comes out because it really doesnt match the authors description, only alittle bit.

ive also read this so called book odin has read now we don't know if the book is the real one now do we????
we just have too wait till the 21st.....

and another thing it says at the bottom of the thing i read which matches the same story as odins that the story is written by a fan which took him 2 and a bit years to wright cos he was bored waiting for the ootp to come out which he also states that if is a fake what he made up.......

incase nobody said it yet but the guy that started this topic has read a fake of about 350 pages which you can download on most share networks....... i really hope that this one is not the real HP5 because that would be a very bad storyline

there's another fake going around that's about 553 pages which is far better then the one that other guy read...... this one actually has the possibility of being an "early draft" of the real HP5 book

i was just wondering if any of you have ever heard the audiobooks read by jim dale for the harry potter books 1 through 4? i did and i really advise others to do that too because it's really nice hearing different voices for ron, harry and all the others

Obviously that is not a spoiler hun. J.K. Rowling has already said that it will not be Harry Ron or Hermione that dies. Also she's also made reference to the fact that Harry is in no way related to Voldemort. The way the books go, it doesn't seem likely that Lily was a Death Eater. I think you should really check the facts hun.

I think i know who's going to die in the 5th book it's probably hagrid because the guy who plays him in the movie said he only signed up for 4 movies, he said it has to do with the fith book. JK cried over this character so it must be her favorite. She said in one interview that hagrid is one of her favorites. It just makes sense.

There is another thread on KMC that contains many Order of the Pheonix spoilers also stated here... I suggest you read it before posting any other incorrect "spoilers." You may very well have been reading the wrong book..

There is a... somewhat "gifted" fanfiction author that had been writing under the title of the Order of the Phoenix. An Alternate Universe speculation, no doubt. They have mislead many people, I do not blame them, to believe that their fanfiction was the true Order of the Phoenix script. I believe the "spoilers" that you have posted in this thread refer to the plot of that fanfiction.. most of them, anyway.

i've found a good site where there are A LOT of fakes
if you find a HP book and you don't know if it's a fake you can look there
remember that the book you found under a name of one of the real HP books might have other names so use the search feature to find possibly fake book

the story i read... did have a few things right....
but not alot...... it hooks you from the start... and from what i can see.... the end leaves you hanging..... DYING for the next one.....

suprisingly, a few of those are fairly acurate..

i've read it, was mildly disappointed actually. although i really like the way she hasnt stopped harry growing up, and the fact he obviously has a healthy amount of hormones running through his veins.. it just all felt slightly disjointed to me, to many revelations ofr one book maybe.

I understand. It was pretty 'disjointed' and I thought he seemed pretty healthy hormone-wise. Otherwise I thought it was a great book. I love the advance guard - mad eye's pretty cool. plus fred and george are the best - they're hilarious sumtimes, but they realize what they're doin. All the characters are fantastic. I hate the new dark arts teacher though. she one evil so and so. cant wait til the 6th one
