Has anybody else seen this movie? I thought it was very well done, like a giant Rob Zombie video.
Yes, it was alot like Texas Chainsaw Masacre (sp?), but even still I like the way Rob put things together. Plus it went through alot of problems with opening dates/filming date problems and the such, so overall I though it did well for what it had to work with, especially since he had to tone DOWN the gore.
Anybody else have an opinion?
Tex
I haven't seen it, beacuse everyone says its horrible beyond belief.
BackFire349
probably, besides 28 days later, the best pure horror film of the last 8 or so years. i loved it and it was a great homage to the alltime horror masterpiece, texas chainsaw massacre. plus had lots of other scenes from other movies, last house on the left for example. it was a fun little movie, although you could really tell they butchered the hell out of it in editing.
TedO
it was a throw back to the way horror movies of the old days were made, and I love it. I haven't seen 28 Days Later yet due to a lack of funds, but I agree where this is one of the best horros in the past 8 years or so.
Although I would have liked to seen more of the the clown, Captain Spaulding, in the movie. He could have had a movei all his own, for that matter.
And yes, the ending was very dissapointing. It's like they just couldn't figure out what to do. Though "Yeah, we'll get you to a doctor." like just made me laugh, because you knew what as coming.

I think the movie was horrible because the story line was so flaky. I think Rob Zombie was so concerned with killing people in the movie that he neglected to improve the storyline. At first it made a little sense but as the movie progressed he seemed to be straying from the point more and more and seemed to be focusing more on death. The only good thing about it was that it contained non-stop action, an gore.

TedO
I agree, the storyline was paper-thing at best. "Group of teenagers look for an old town legend location and get kidnapped by crazy killers."
Still, for such a thin storyline the movie was very good. I understand how many people need storylines nowadays, and in some ways that's true. But not all movies need something so complex that you have to keep notes. This movie will give you a basic idea and let you run with it. The action scenes were great, yes, and the gore was non-stop, to the point where the movie exec's made him tone it down, and the editing was very well done. Like I said, a big Rob Zombie music video. Made me not care about the lack of a storyline.
And I love how, in the end, the evil side wins. I wish more movies would do that. I would love to see an entire franchise, like NOES and F13th, where in the final film the evil creature wins, like Jeepers Creepers.
BackFire349
its cuz the movie was butchered very heavily during editing kruegerkid, they had to cut out alot of scenes.
kruegerKid
Maybe that's it Backfire, like I said that was the only negative thing about this movie. I'm not saying I need the most complex storyline ever, just something that at least shows some thought went into the production of it.
BackFire349
i agree it fell apart towards the end. but when the dvd comes out we'll see if the deleted scenes make it better.
kruegerKid
Hopefully they will...
BackFire349
plus you have to remember this is rob zombies first movie. so we gotta cut him some slack, cuz it was damn good for a freshman effort.
kruegerKid
True True, then again I never criticized is skills as a director, like I said I just think he should've worked on the story a little more. Props to him though for a good newbie effort.
TedO
I think he did amazing for a first time... he cut alot back gore and scene wise, so hopefully they'll have a special unrated edition where all the scenes that were meant to be in it are.
kruegerKid
Yeah that would be great, nice uncut, extended version that will actually, well most likely, make sense...lol
TedO
Well, the movie already makes sense, but it would make more sense and more gore shots, maybe even more of Spaulding... *hopeful*
kruegerKid
We're all hopeful....
BackFire349
well its announced that the dvd will have deleted scenes.
Punker69
i DIDNT like it it wasnt even scary and it was weird
swordmaster
I think it was good, it sorta rambled off near the end, but it was excellent for being rob zombies first movie.

I've just watched this film (had to order it in from the States as it was criminally ignored in the UK) and my initial reaction was pretty good, although not scary it was pretty damn funny in a macabre type of way, i was listening to Rob Zombies Directors commentary and its pretty funny similar to that of Tom Savini's Dawn of the Dead audio commentary, agreed the ending was pretty damn good and certainly one of the most surprising i have seen in any film for a long time, i do hope they give the green light for a second outing but i'd rather see Rob Zombie and Co move to an independent distributor then see it become butchered like this one was, Zombie certainly has a twisted mind capable of mixing it up there with Hooper, Rami and Argento lets give him the space to do so.
