when the rebels were making their death star trench run, they went in three at a time. 3 y wings, three more x wings, then, finally, luke, wedge and biggs in their x wings. now, when the lead fighter would make ready to take his shot, the two trailing fighters would fall back far enough to "cover" him. why not send one at a time and fall in BEHIND any tie's that tried to interfere with the trench run? i know that there are a whole lot of ifs, ands, buts, and maybes here, like the fact that there were ties everywhere and you couldnt expect a couple of x wings to hold in a pattern above the trench until they were needed to dispatch of any encroaching ties. still, how do you "cover" for someone if you are right behind them?
