Ratcat
With the festive season nearly upon us, less than six weeks to go and I bet you're not ready! I thought it would be nice for us all to share our plans with the rest of the forum.

For my part, we will be having a simple Christams at home with the family. Christams Eve is normally spent hand delivering Christmas cards to all of our close friends and family.
With Christmas day actually falling on a Monday, it makes for a nice easy weekend to prepare. AND I finish work on the 22nd and done return to work until 2nd January 2001!!!
Amazingly we have completed the majority of our present shopping already, this is unbelievably organised for us. Only a few for my son moth of the moms to deal with now.
Christmas dinner: A nice tradiional one with Turkey and all the trimmings, loads of Plum pudding and cream and a few nice bottles of white wine will make for a sleepy afternoon.

I guess by the law of averages there must be a least one of us out there who doesn't celebrate Christmas as well.

Dim
That would be me..

I'll be sitting alone...no tree, no cookies...just snow...in Idaho..by myself.

Ratcat
Is that on relegious, moral or living on your own grounds?

Look on the bright side, you can always roast a few potatoes. laughing out loud

Plus Snow is lovely on Christmas day. smile

I'd say we'd have your for Christmas but we prefer turkey. laughing out loud laughing out loud laughing out loud

King Jedi
I'll be doing the same as Ratcat as well as going to parties that I really, really don't want to go to.
Christmas has never been the same since they stopped showing Star Wars here. It used to be on every year when I was a kid.

Ratcat
Hey, maybe Stanta will bring you the re-re-release on video. smile

I found a good way out of those parties, don't go! I intend to go to about 1 party this year and that's for New Years Eve.

We made the BIG mistake of having a party at our place on Christmas Eve, it was a great party but I do not want to be up at 2am on Christams day this year picking peanuts out of the carpet.

Dim
Wow...I'm feeling utterly pathetic now...I'm not doing anything...no parties, not twinkling lights, no eggnog...I'm not even going to watch those old puppet animations from the 60's on TV...

Ratcat
Hey, your just trying to make us feel bad... sad

Dim
Noooooo..don't feel bad..atleast I'll get presents..smile and get to eat all that awful sugary candy and cookies...

Ratcat
Maybe you could roast a quail, I mean a turkey would be too big for you on your own. laughing out loud

King Jedi
I think I'll just hibernate until it's over.

theEviljedi
Cut the Turducken, buy the presents...you know the ususal.

Darth Daft
At Christmas I'm going to go to bed. That'll do for me.

Ratcat
Hey EJ, whats a Turducken? some kind of weird Chicken/Turkey/Duck hybrid.

I guess asking a bunch of Americans what their doing for Christmas is a bit dumb. You guys tend to do more for Thanksgiviing don't you? I mean it's considered a bigger holiday that Christmas? Is that right?

-+-+-+-+-+UPDATED POST-+-+-+-+-+UPDATED POST-+-+-+-+-+UPDATED POST

OK, there is a distinct lack of Christmas spirit around here amd it's just not good enough. Applogies to all those or Jewish, Buddist or other not Christams celebrating faith)

Anyway, go checkout www.christmas.com and start getting Christmasy, there's only 40 days to go you kow.

And before you ask, no I'm not on any back hander or referal fee, it's just the best Christmas site I've ever found.

theEviljedi
I love Christmas, but it's a little to soon to talk about it I think.Turducken is a chicken stuffed inside a duck, stuffed inside of a turkey.

Ratcat
Oh, I've heard on that. There's a version that starts witha quail or something and you end up with like 6 or 7 pregressively larger birds. Definately for the BIG family.smile

Don't say it's ages 'til Chrystams, it's only 39 days....

39 days....39 days....39 days....39 days....39 days....39 days....

Oh my gosh and I haven't even thought about the mince pies yet, ot the chocs, or the candy or the nuts or the beer. Oh my, oh my I need to go shopping!

theEviljedi
I'll get excited after Thanksgiving is over.

Ratcat
That's 24th is it?

That's why you can't get so built up about it yet, you have Thanksgiving just around the corner. We don't have that in the UK so Christams is the next big festival/holiday.

Darth Daft
Does America have Fireworks Night? Or is it just a British thing because of the gunpowder plot?

theEviljedi
The 4th of July and New Years Eve are "fire works" nights.

Ratcat
Yeah, the gun powder plot and Guy Fawlkes were all about the attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliment. So it didn't really impact other countries.

Dim
Nope...I never even heard of it. When's Fireworks Night?

Ratcat
Novemeber 5th. If you are so inclined look up Guy Fawlkes on
Yahoo, there's loads of info about the "Gunpowder Plot"
and Fireworks night.

King Jedi
It's a great story but I think it's odd that we celebrate the
houses of parliament almost being blown up by having a fire works
night and pretending to burn Guy Fawkes on a fire.

Ratcat
Isn't it more a case of celebrating the fact that he was caught
and the House of Parliment were not blown up. Hence the burning
of the Guy Fawlkes effergy.

King Jedi
But why Fireworks? It's like saying "oh well the houses
of parliament didn't get blown up but let's blow things up as
a celebration".

Ratcat
Ys know, I think that was basically it. I mean they had all that
spare gun powder, <img src=http:

Darth Daft
I was almost burnt by a firework recently when I was walking
through a park. Went straight over me and loads of sparks landed
right next to me.
There were loads during the Millenium
when I went to London and got squashed in the crowds.

Ratcat
I accidently bombed the motorway(Freeway) once when we let of a small rocket and a big gust of mind pulled it over and down onto the road. oopsss

King Jedi
I stupidly through a firework on a bonfire and it exploded in about 20 different directions. One of those was my neighbours pidgeon hut. There was an odd smell of singed bird for the rest of the night.

Ratcat
laughing out loud laughing out loud laughing out loud laughing out loud

Anyway, back on topic, anyone esle wish to share the Christmas plans?

Dim
I think i'll probably go driving around this deserted town...Then go down by the river and reflect on my life thus far...that's my plans for Christmas

King Jedi
That sounds like the start of a Christmas Movie. Just before the good fairy turns up and shows you how great Christmas is.smile

Dim
...if some fairy in a big pink tutu. comes prancing at me through the snow I'm running...

theEviljedi
You guys are lucking you have snow. I haven't had any since I was 6.

Ratcat
Forcatss for England say we're heading for a hard winter, we normally get a real bad one every 10 years of so and it's about due.

The last two real bad ones had 10-15 foot snow drifts in the small country lanes near where I live now. That's bad for the south of England.

King Jedi
Yippee!! If it's snowing in the south of England then I'm pretty sure it will snow here.

Dim
Hmmm, we haven't gotten much yet...you guys are going to have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG winter if you already have snow drifts like that...

EJ, you're not missing anything...trust me..

It was cool this morning...the whole city is in a big cloud, so it's all foggy and pastel colored..

Darth Daft
I love snow. Makes Christmas so much more festive.

theEviljedi
But I am Dim. I was born up north and loved that cold atmosphere. Anyway, anyone going to see The Grinch? Me and my sister are going to see it Wednesday.

Ratcat
It's not out for a few more weeks here, just in time for Christmas though. Hopefully doing to take the little one to see it.

Darth Daft
I'd rather not go see it. I used to like Jim Carrey but he annoys me a bit now.

Ratcat
Apparently it's being touted as his brest film ever.

theEviljedi
Brest film huh?roll eyes (sarcastic) Most be full of hookers.laughing out loud Anyway, when I went to the theaters today they said it was sold out and I had to settle for The Rugrats in Paris.sad

Ratcat
Oops!, Well you know what I mean. smile

They had the Rugrats Movie on TV last night. I managed about 30 minutes before I left Ben to it and snuck upstairs to my computer. Can't really do that in the cinema though.

Dim
Nope...it's going to be you and Rugrats in Paris for two hours...smile

Ratcat
I just hope the popcorns good. At least Charlies Angels comes out in the UK next week. That film is supposed to kick butt.

I just hope it lives up to the hype.

theEviljedi
It's been number one for 2 weeks here...until The Grinch came out that is.

Xizor
For Christmas I'll be heading home to Connecticut. There would be snow here in CU, but it's always 50/50 there. I'll sleep in my old bed and room and wakeup to go down to the tree like when I was little. My brother and sisters are still young and we'll have fun sitting around the tree and eating breakfast in the living room. Then I'll be dragged to church, and go to my neighbors party where we all listen to XMass songs, watch sports, play in the snow and have ginger bread house contests. Then we'll have a big Ham dinner at home with a few relatives from my mom's side. On Wednsday we have my Dad's family reunion in Maine with over 25 of my family in attendance. Thursday through Saterday I'll be skiing at Killington with high school Friends and then there will be a huge New Years party to go to as well!!! I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!!

Ratcat
Sounds great. Nice to see I'm not the only one who get's enthusiatic about Christmas.

Bluesteel
This will be a typical faroese christmas I suppose.

Closest family members gather on the 24th, parents make the food which usually consists of roasted duck or goose, along with sweet potatos, cooked then put on the fring pan with suger on it, so the potatos turn brown (yum yum yum big grin ) a good sause, and all sorts of stuff which I dont know then english name of heh. Good red wine or light beer, candles on the table, a few songs, and there you have the best dinner of the year wink

Other than that I suppose I will do my traditional "Mortal Kombat play trough, from first game to last, in arcade mode, and against anyone who dares to interupt me! :P

After dinner it's desert time, we this very tasty rise thingy, with nice cream in it, along with strawbeery cause, and one "nut" is put in it, the one who gets the nut will get an extra gift, usually some chocolates or something anyone will like. After that it's gift time!

And after that it's mostly up to ppl what they want to do, some go for walks, some relax and eat more, you know whatever smile
