WHY ON EARTH DOES SUPERMAN WEAR AN UNDERWEAR OVER HIS PANTS

Its a classic. It was created a long time ago. Just like all the othe super heroes. Ex: Robin, cyclops etc etc. But to answer your question, i have no idea.

Its probably not even underwear, its probably just the way they designed him to make him look a little more detailed.

I think it was too make him look less...um how to put this? Well, certain things stand out if it's all one color on the costume, and you're looking at the person from the side.
