Gandalf may be played by a uber-gay man; he'd still a bad-ass though. Harry would have shat his shorts if he had to face the Balrog, while Gandalf left his foe smitten on the side of the mountain.

Gandalf also entrusts the fate of the world to a hobbit who can't take care of himself and needs Sam and Aragorn to rescue him at every turn. Harry at least put his trust in competent people.
