Robin has the advantage with arrows and the arguable open field of a castle courtyard. Maximus should be able any cover available, along with his shield, to help make Robin waste his shots. If he all five arrows are spent, I think the win goes to Maximus.

Robin Hood should stomp due to advanced weaponry/armor and advanced fencing/fighting techniques.
But if you give them same quality of equipment, well,
sword + shield >> long sword
Robin Hood can kill Maximus from a distance. Of course, the fact that he only has 5 arrows and Maximus has his shield makes the bow almost next to useless.
Maximus obviously will dominate close quarters.
