Aaron Eckhart as Michael Nantz.

Snafu's Notes: Dedicated to my cousin, who is a former Marine. He asked that I do this respect thread.

What happens when you mix Modern Warfare 2 with invading aliens instead of pissed off Russians with a dash of Black Hawk Down?

Battle: Los Angeles, also known as World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles is the result.

A 20-year veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz is days away from retirement.

One of the driving reasons as to his impending retirement is that during a mission in Iraq, four of his soldiers were killed.

However, on August 11, 2011, two days before his retirement, Nantz is called in to replace a platoon sergeant from "E" Company, 2nd Battalion 5th Marines (who is actually based out of Camp Pendleton) just as an invading alien army shows up and starts blowing shit (and people) up.

Led by recently minted officer 2nd Lieutenant William Martinez, Nantz's group must rescue a band of survivors holed up inside a police station and get the hell out of Dodge before the area is bombed to bits in an attempt to destroy the invading forces.

Things don't go as planned, since the aliens prove to be a serious challenge. It is only after hooking up with Air Force Tech Sergeant Elena Santos (Michelle Rodriguez - awesome and hot as always), that Nantz's team gets an idea as to what the aliens are looking for.

It also sets the stage for Nantz's personal redemption.

Battle: L.A. is not as flashy as disaster master Emmerich's Independence Day, but the movie is awesome to watch.

Trivia: Aaron Eckhart is not the only person to portray a Marine. Other notable performances include:

- Will Smith and Robert Loggia (Independence Day)
- Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson (Rules of Engagement)
- Jack Nicholson (A Few Good Men)
- Matthew Modine and Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket)
- John Cena (The Marine)

Honorable mention goes to Chris Meloni (L&O: Special Victims Unit) and real live ex-Marine R. Lee Ermey.
