What does the UK think of Tony Blair?
I always hear you Brits yappin about our politicians, but never your own. How is Blair seen by his 'people'?
Please, don't give up some snide one sided remark, I really want to know. What do the people that like him think? What do the people that hate him think? What kind and how many parties do you guys have over there anyways?
He seems like a pretty cool cat to me, but then I know next to nothing about the man except what he says about us.
Edjimacate me!

well, i used to live there only 1 month ago, and i really didnt know anything about him either! only impression i get really is my mum and stepdad really really hated him, said he was running the country into the ground, probably a reason why im over here now!
probably not what you wanted to hear, im sure someone who knows what there talking about will post here soon!
When our general election (which is sort of the equivalent to your presidential election) rolls up, we probably (particularly the 'MTV generation') won't be caught up in the passion we've seen on here over the last few days/weeks with the US one.
As for Blair i find him too intertwined with Bush, almost like the 'friend' of a bully who are only in that position out of fear.
Interestingly New Labour members were actively trying to disrupt proceedings in the US election which brought Bush into office. It's a turnabout for Blair to be Bush's personal friend (if that can be believed), but I wouldn't say he is "interwined" with Bush at all.
he has the charisma to be prime minister.... but other than that hes not fit for the job.
the country's gone downhill since he came into power, but ppl wont vote him out because the opposition is a mess atm#
EDIT: the sad thing is, because theres no decent opposition.....parties like the BNP are gettin more and more votes, coupled with the fact that immigration is becoming a huge problem, and islamophobia

Basically he's the only person in the Labour party who trusts and likes George Bush so he has to convince the rest of his own cabinet that he's right or he'll be in trouble.
I think he needs to grow a back bone and stop buying houses with the taxpayers money.
Tony Blair is fundamentally a nice guy, is trying his level best to do the right thing for the people of Britain, He has a special interest in Africa and the Middle East crisis particularly Israel/Palestine, but he is very very naive in his approach to these very complex problems.
He has a huge need to be seen as a "statesman" for two reasons, he is obsessed with how history will remember him and he has little control over domestic affairs (google Gordon Brown the and granita deal for details).
He has brought a form of peace to where i live which is a damn site more than the previous Prime Ministers ever did, and for that I'm thankful.
As for Iraq, well its a mess, but Britain cannot walk away from the area now, we have a responsibility and an obligation to secure a stable and peaceful nation for the people of Iraq.
blair has been an alright leader, but has no real opposition in the country from the torrys or the lib dems, so he is the best person for the job at the moment i suppose, even though i am not a great fan!
df02, the BNP may be getting more votes, but they are still AGES (and i mean liek a million years) for been a valid opposition to blair or a labor gorenment. I am affraid we are stuck with him fora while until the torrys get there leader sorted out!
yeah i agree until the opponents sort out there leaders we are stuck with Blair.
Which is not bad thing entirely i think he is a good moral person and i think he is taking advantage his friendship with Bush to sort out the crisis in the middle east
I rather have Blair as a leader then any other opponent

Thanks for the insight. Seems like most of you hate Blair as much as a lot of Americans hate Dubs. What is it wiuth the citizenry commonly hating on their leaders? Theres something fundamentally wrong with that.
I don't get UK politics. You guys have royalty, but the elected officials seem to do all the work, get all the press, and take all the hate. What does the royal family even do?

the royal family dont do nething... they passed almost all their powers onto Parliament ages ago
i never said the BNP were a valid opposition, but because of the increased votes, theyre getting more seats in Parliament so have more of a voice.... which tbh is working out well, they act as an anti-PC voice and argue heavily for the strictening of Immigration laws, and are anti-europe.....all good things, but because they only have a few seats, they have no dangerous amount of power...because lets face it, if they ever got a decent amount of power, the country would go to hell!
theyre pretty much a white power movement in suits.
now, The UK Independence Party, theres a party to vote for....theyre all for the tightening of immigration, anti-europe, strict on crime...but arent white power neo-nazi scum
