On the 17th of May, 1814, the Norwegian Constitution was proclaimed in the Constitutional Assembly Hall at Eidsvoll.
The Constitution was created against a backdrop of the ideas of the Age of Enlightenment and the Napoleonic wars in Europe, as a protest against Denmark ceding Norway to Sweden.
The Constitution was created during the course of six intense weeks, whereupon Norway was pro-claimed an independent state. After a short war, Norway still had to form a union with Sweden, but the fundamental features of the Constitution - the most liberal the world had ever seen - were kept. Today, the Norwegian Constitution is the oldest existing constitutional charter in Europe.
Today they have parades all over Norway and the parades are made up of the childrens schools cause it is a celebration for the kids(future generation )
