Treat your friend as normal. Don't act any different around him-he will pick up on it. Just be there for him, and let him know that if he has a problem, he is more than welcome to confide in you.

If your friend suffers from Bi-Polar, he will likely be on medication for depression, as they are the same thing. Bi-Polar is different because suffers experience extreme highs as well as extreme lows.

It's great that you care so much about your friend! Just be there for him, is all the advice I can offer! Be the friend you are now. wink

Be a friend to your friend by trying to talk to him/her about what the problem is. I suffered from depression and anxiety as well for many years and then I stopped feeling sorry for myself. I was also addicted to drugs and cigarettes. Pills and medication are not the answer - they only cover up the symptoms and have serious side effects. It's all in the mind, but people think they don't have the power within themselves to heal.

Also, your friends illness is something he/she neds to get through alone - there's a lesson to learn, so when the time is right, he/she will be well again.

You and/or your friend can also try chanting: Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. PM me if you want to know more.

It really depends on what kind of friend you are. Are you there for the long run, the good and the bad? Or are you there just for convenience?

I had a friend that had Bipolar really bad....She had a phobia of crowds and open places.......She would get claustrophobic and when we would go places we had to take back road all the time.........Took forever to get there..........She also had those mood swings. Real highs and real lows where she would get angry easily.......I was empathetic and tried to understand. She was a good friend and we had lots great times...I would just go with the flow. Though the one thing I would try to have her do is challenge herself. I saw that when she made these little strides, she'd get used to them, and then take another step and then another....She didn't always have this, but it seemed, for her, to start at around the age of 15...............Just be there for your friend, encourage, but don't them take advantage of you....
