Help needed! Eastern Front in WW2

Hey there everyone,

I am new to the forum as I came across it earlier when browsing for some information. It's a long shot but I'm looking for some help with my A2 History project in which I have assigned myself the question...

"How big of a role did the overstretching of German forces on the Russian Front contribute to Germany’s defeat in World War II?"

So far I have gathered quite a few snippets of information on the subject, however it would be great if anyone could give me some information on it or a link to a website or a good book on the topic which will help me answer my question.

Many thanks,

Jonathan.

The main cause of German failure was faulty planning. The objectives of Operation Barbarossa were quite unrealistic from the beginning. Hitler tried to kill his golden goose.

Couple of books.

BARBAROSSA THE RUSSIAN-GERMAN CONFLICT 1941-45
By Alan Clark

Still regarded as a good book

THE BATTLE OF KURSK
By David M. Glantz & Jonathan M. House

This one shows the poor German planing and under estimated the Soviet forces.

The German's lost an entire Army encircled at Stalingrad; this swung the balance much more in Russia's favour; at the same time the Allies were winning in North Africa and invading Sicily
