US film star Patrick Swayze dies

Swayze fought his disease in public

Film star Patrick Swayze has died aged 57, his publicist says.

Annett Wolf said that the US actor, who had been battling pancreatic cancer for nearly two years, died with family at his side on Monday.

Swayze was diagnosed with advanced stage four pancreatic cancer in January last year.

The actor had been starring in US TV show The Beast since being diagnosed with the disease. He had also planned to write a memoir with his wife.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement by Annett Wolf quoted by the Associated Press.

Damn, that sucks. He was never on my favorite actors list, but I grew up watching his flicks. He just sort of always struck me as a dude who goes in to make a movie, gets the job done, moves on. Nothing spectacular, but also not pretentious.

Fukin a man. this cat was a rad actor. I always wondered why he didnt act more and then one day, i heard...,he had cancer. I was like, dude, thats balls. PS is the man. Ghost, Point Break The dirty D and three wishes. God damn, the man left behind some passionate movies. I'll miss this guy, but i know he's not missing us.
