BARACK Obama's UK-based cousin is suing the Metropolitan Police over claims a farting policeman made her life a misery.
Marie Auma, who lives in London and is a relation of the US president, is taking her former employer to court amid claims she was "belittled and humiliated" in a campaign of harassment.
The 57-year-old, who was at Mr Obama's inauguration when he became president in 2009, says the dispute stems from the Met refusing to grant her leave to visit the grave of her two brothers after they died in a car crash in Kenya in 2007.
At a trial at Central London County Court, Ms Auma, of Haringey, north London, is fighting for compensation.
The Met denies liability.
Her lawyer Lorraine Mensah said there was a "culture" of bullying at Ms Auma's former workplace.
Ms Auma, whose job involved liaising with crime victims, was branded a trouble-maker and became the victim of a "pack mentality" at Southwark Police Station, her barrister claimed.
Ms Mensah said: "The passing of wind at her desk in an open plan office is an attempt to belittle her and humiliate her.
"There was clear evidence before the defendants that she was suffering stress, causing her ill health, and she attributed that to the bullying and harassment that she complained of."
She was forced to take time off work due to chest pains in 2008, which she blamed on anxiety and stress caused by her situation at work.
Ms Auma had a mental breakdown and was admitted to hospital, but she never returned to work and later retired on health grounds.
Ms Auma is related to the world's most powerful man through her aunt, Kezia Obama, who is the president's Berkshire-based step-mum.
In 2009 she travelled with Mrs Obama to Washington for his inauguration.
